July 2014

July has turned into a very busy month for festivals and events! From a shopping event to film screening and plenty of festivals, we hope everyone ventures to one or more of these great activities. Your support will help benefit many local groups and businesses, and it's very appreciated.

This month is also the final chance to save big on our festival tickets, and we're also launching our annual ticket contests. Keep reading to see if your name was drawn this time--->

New in 2014: Clan Village
A Special Welcome to all Clans & Their Families!
Our Clan Row has gotten so big, this year we have officially upgraded it to Clan Village! Located at the heart of the festival grounds and alongside the Highland Athlete Field, it combines the best in education, entertainment and heritage.

To help with this wonderful change, we also want to introduce some very special guests to this year's Clan Village:

Welcome Clan Henderson for Your Annual General Meeting!
plus a Special Welcome to High Commissioner of
North America and Chieftain David S. Henderson

Welcome Clan Kennedy and
The 8th Marquess of Ailsa, 19th Earl of Cassillis
and Chief of Clan Kennedy

Our Guest of Honor, the 8th Marquess of Ailsa, 19th Earl of Cassillis, eldest son of the 7th Marquess of Ailsa, was born September 13, 1956 at Culzean Castle in Ayrshire. In 1958 his family moved to the former Kennedy seat, the 13th century Cassillis Castle near Maybole, where he grew up. He took his seat in the House of Lords in June 1994, following the death of his father in April that year. As clan chief, Lord Ailsa is an active Patron and vitally interested in the Kennedy Society of North America and the many members of the far-flung Kennedy clan.

Plot: Joshua Minnitt, an English Justice of the Peace during the Irish potato famine of the 1850's, worked tirelessly with his family to fight the famine and save a community, but had to disinherit his only son when he married a local catholic girl.

The film was shot in Tipperary. Already screened in New York, Philadelphia and Boston to a great response from an Irish American audience, this film tells an important story in Irish history. The writer/director will be there for a Q+A discussion after the screening. Admission is FREE thanks to a grant from the Buffalo Irish Festival!
