Volunteers Needed!
Our Placemaking effort is making some progress! Node 5 which includes Cedar Side Trail, UW-BC and WITC is working on plans to open up the view to the river. Buckthorn (an invasive species) is taking over and blocking the view and also preventing other wildflowers etc. from growing.
On Wednesday, April 22nd between 2 - 7 p.m. we have organized workers to start the removal. We are in need of able bodied people to help us pile up what is cut so it can be chipped. If you have an hour, two hours or more, please call the office and get on the list to help us. All you need to do is call 715.234.2126 to get on the list! We are looking for 100 volunteers!
Please set aside a couple hours that day to help.

Heart of the North at Madison
March 3, 2015
Heart of the North Days is a grassroots community-based effort to bring issues of importance to the State Legislators for the northern counties of Barron, Rusk, Sawyer, and Washburn. 2015 is the third year for our grassroots lobbying effort. We traveled to Madison Tuesday March 3rd by bus from the Rice Lake Chamber office. We had meetings with key legislators, department heads and state cabinet level officials to advocate for issues that are unique and specific to our region of the great State of Wisconsin. We are always looking for feedback and input to help make our lobbying effort a successful event. Public involvement is critical to our efforts.

Bert's Joke of the Month
Paddy Murphy applied for a job at a famous firm based in Dublin.
A Frenchman applied for the same job and since both applicants had similar qualifications, they were asked to take a test by the Manager.
When the results were in, both men had scored 19 out of 20.
The manager went to Murphy and said, "Thank you for coming to the interview, but we've decided to give the Frenchman the job."
Murphy asked, "And why would you be doing that? We both got 19 questions correct. This being Ireland and me being Irish, surely I should get the job."
The Manager replied, "We have made our decision not on the correct answers, but on the question you got wrong."
Murphy exclaimed, "And just how would one incorrect answer be better than another??!!"
"Simple", said the Manager. "On question No. 7, the Frenchman wrote, 'I don't know...'"
"...and you put down, 'Neither do I'."
