Welcome to 2013 and the January edition of the FunkFit Republic.  We are excited for the New Year and all of the new and familiar faces it brings into the studio.  We look forward to helping each and every one of you reach your health and fitness goals.  
 
Congratulations to Ryan Bein and Sean Pearsen for completing the Finish Strong challenge.  Each of them worked out at least 24 times and lost 5 pounds between November 1st and the end of December.  Way to go guys!

Measurement Success

 

Ah yes, it is a New Year once again.  In the fitness industry we all know that January brings resolutions, goals, and motivation to all of us.  As fired up as everyone is about his or her new nutrition plan or workout regime, for some reason this excitement dwindles, and before you know it, many people have abandoned the goals that they felt so strongly about.  What are you going to do this year to not be part of that crowd?  How are you going to separate yourself from others and continue on your health and fitness journey all year long?  The answer is simple.  Stay on track this year by committing yourself to regularly scheduled assessments, measurements, and workout appointments.

 

Robin Sharma says it best, "What gets measured gets improved."  In order to make something better you must first have a baseline or some type of starting ground.  Beginning your year without knowing these vital statistics is like being dropped in the middle of the ocean without knowing what direction to swim.  If you head into your new workout plan or begin your clean and healthy eating plan without first weighing, measuring, and recording your bodyfat percentage, you are setting yourself up for failure.  Without knowing your initial biometrics, you will not be able to measure what changes have occurred during your first month.  The improvements, whether it is weight loss, a smaller waistline, increase in lean body mass, or whatever else your goal(s) might be, are what continue to motivate you on a weekly and monthly basis.  Experiencing consistent success will keep you fired up all year long.

 

The best way to ensure your regular measurements take place is to have an accountability partner.  This person could be your family member or friend, or even better, your Fitness Coach.   Whoever it might be, commit to each other and help each other succeed this year by keeping regular tabs on your improvements. At Funktional Fitness, our Coaches schedule monthly assessments with their private training clients to evaluate each individual's progress and to make adjustments to his or her plans as necessary.  Our goal is for all of our clients and members to reach his or her goals and to continue to see improvements thru ought the year.

What's Going On At FunkFit
new year goal

January 1st: HAPPY NEW YEAR! Funktional Fitness closed for the holiday!

 

January 7th: Another phase of 45 Day FAT BLAST Program begins. Only a few spots remain so hurry up and register. (Registration open thru January 11th)  Email Coach Jacquie.smith@funkfitness.com with any questions. 

 

January 7th:  Strong and Lean in 2013.  This new program is designed for those who are looking to get leaner while preserving muscle, those who are already lean and looking to build muscle, or those who have lost weight and are now looking to gain more muscle tone.   Sign up today if you want to build a stronger, leaner body! 

 

January 12th: FUNKFIT CLOSED. We apologize for the inconvenience but you can be sure your favorite coaches will be learning some great new things while continuing education during a downtown workshop.  

 

January 14th: "Race Day Ready" Are you training for the PF Chang's Rock-n-Roll marathon or maybe you've never done a race and want to learn more about it? If so, then you'll want to join  Coach Joe for this informative workshop about race day preparation. Come with a pen and paper and be ready to learn at 7pm. This event is open to the public, all non-members welcome.  Training plans will be available for purchase after the seminar! 

 

January 19th:  Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga! Studies show that stretching and toning the muscles, flexing the spine and focusing the mind inward, reduces stress. Join Yogi Cassandra every 2nd Saturday of the month at 11AM for this 90-minute class. $5 donations appreciated. This event is open to the public, all non-members welcome.

 

January 29th: Nutrition University: "FATS 101". 'Non fat, low-fat, trans-fat- OH MY...' The list goes on, but what does it all mean? Did you know that fat can actually help with your weight loss this year? Come join Coach Paige at 6pm to learn about our most misunderstood macro-nutrient. This workshop is free and open to the public.

Hey it's Melody! It has been my greatest pleasure to work here at Funktional Fitness with such amazing clients and co-workers. As you all might know I have been trying to perfect my smoothies here at Funkfit to make them pleasing to your taste buds and to your body.

 

I love making smoothies and have been doing it religiously since I started training for track and dance in high school because of the powerhouse of nutrients you get depending on what you add. They are a big asset to my health and fitness and will always be my go-to post workout snack or breakfast. Therefore, being able to make smoothies for our clients is my joy. I help play a part in their healthy lifestyle, because I know that if they get a smoothie right after their workout (studies have shown) they will eat less for their next meal and recover quicker.

 

Slowly but surely, I have been adding nutritious whole foods such as bananas, chia seeds and greens to the menu. If you have any suggestions or ideas for new recipes, then please let me know. I would love to experiment with more ingredients.

Clean Eating for a Healthier You
Paleo Breakfast Casserole      

     

 

  

Ingredients:   

4 eggs
8 strips of cooked bacon cut into small pieces 
2 full strips of cooked bacon (set aside)
½ red onion (diced)
1 large yellow squash (chopped)
2 small or 1 large zucchini (chopped)
2 cups of frozen chopped spinach
1 tbsp rosemary
2 tbsp garlic powder
2 tsp oregano
Salt and pepper to taste


Directions:   

Heat the oven to 350. Whisk all of the eggs together in a large bowl. Add the chopped veggies, bacon and spices. Stir everything together. Thoroughly grease the entire 9x13 baking dish (sides too) with coconut oil. Add the egg mixture to the baking dish and evenly distribute it throughout. Bake for about 45 minutes or until the center has set and is firm. Crumble the remaining two pieces of bacon. Once it is finished baking, remove from the oven and sprinkle the bacon on top.
