"360 evaluations" are here

We have enhanced the LCMS+ evaluation system to include numerous new evaluation types. Originally, LCMS+ only allowed students to evaluate faculty in an event-based course. Evaluation types now include faculty evaluating students, clinical faculty evaluating students, students evaluating clinical faculty, etc.

LCMS+ offers many automated evaluation types where faculty-student relationships are automatically assigned as a result of enrollment in courses, events and groups. However, given the dynamic nature of clinical experiences, clinical faculty evaluations are not tied to a schedule but provide a standalone list of preceptors so students can select the preceptor they worked with during a given experience.

Next up for release: general course evaluations, course directors evaluating faculty and other combinations as indicated by client interest.

Event creation just got turbo-charged
New "Linked Events" function kicks into gear

Our new Linked Events function allows you to create a collection of events closely related - e.g., lab events on a given day or visits to simulation center over the course of two weeks - where all events would have the same objectives and documents.

The act of creating individual events used to take a lot longer. Now you can create a prototype event and then use the new Linked Events tool to quickly create other events based on this prototype. Then you only have to enter the data that differentiates each event. This minimizes data entry and allows you to easily create a set of events that can share the same set of documents and curriculum mapping.

Save-As-New function. The Save-As-New function allows you to quickly create a new event that shares characteristics with an existing event, meaning that all the options that are available in course rollover, such as objectives, documents, faculty and staff assignments, etc., are also available in Save-As-New at the event level.

Find more of what you're looking for

We've also improved the search capabilities of LCMS+. Keyword search results can now show the number of events linked to each line of your search result. You can download a detailed spreadsheet with data regarding those events per line.

You can also download a spreadsheet of all these lines combined, which will reflect every event belonging to that search result.

You also have the ability to select what you are searching. Perhaps you're just looking for documents and events, or maybe you want to see goals, objectives and PET (patient encounter tracking) data. New features currently in development will let you filter the results further as well as be more granular in your search parameters.

AAMC Curriculum Inventory update

September 2013 is the target date for medical schools to begin uploading curriculum data to the new AAMC Curriculum Inventory tool. LCMS+ is focused on making sure all our client schools will be ready as their individual circumstances allow, and we are always happy to speak with you if you have a question about how your own school or program can be better prepared.

LCMS+ clients keep innovating

The American Medical Association (AMA) has chosen 31 innovative proposals from the initial pool of 119 applicants to move forward in the AMA's $10 million Accelerating Change in Medical Education initiative aimed at transforming the way future physicians are trained.

Congratulations to our three client schools who received invitations to submit full proposals:

See the list of all schools who were invited to submit full proposals. Grants will be awarded June 14 - we'll highlight the winners in our next issue. Congratulations again to all our client schools!

3-D anatomy resources that amaze

Check out the TEDMed talk by Marc Triola of New York University School of Medicine and say hello to the BioDigital Human, a web-based, interactive 3D virtual anatomy model. Anyone can use BioDigital Human to explore the human body for free, or you can invest in a paid subscription for greater functionality.

You might also want to look at Anatronica, an app that gives student and teachers an anatomically accurate, high-detail 3D model of the human body. You can twist and turn the model to get a 360-degree view and search its 2,500 body parts. Anatronica is available for all relevant platforms, Android, iOS (iPad), Windows, MacOS and offers a free online version too.
