Welcome to our weekly newsletter, The Green Scene. Please watch every Monday night for this newsletter to learn about upcoming school events, information and opportunities to volunteer for our school.

The school year is winding down and it is time to hold elections for next year's PFC Board.  If you will have a student at John Green during the 2014/2015 school year consider sitting on the board.  There are 8 board positions that need to be filled and all of them are open during this election process.  For a description of the duties or to submit your name as a candidate, please visit johngreenpfc.org and click on the 2014-2015 Nomination/Candidacy Submission Form under the "About Us" tab.  All forms should be turned into the office a.s.a.p., as elections will take place this month.

Wednesday, April 16, 2014 is John Green's monthly WALK and ROLL to School Day! We encourage everyone to participate by walking, rolling or carpooling.
We will have stickers for each child who walks, rolls or carpools to school and a chance to win bicycle flat repairs. We are keeping track of student participation and at year end, the class with the most participation will win an Ice Cream social.  Ms Flory/Moylan's class has taken the lead with highest participation so far.

What helps to make John Green a great school?  THE PARENTS!  If each of us gave one hour of our time, we could make a big difference in our child's education.  John Green PFC sponsors many events throughout the year and we need a lot of volunteers to make these events run smoothly!  Take a look at volunteer opportunities as they come up and find something you are interested in.  Show your kids that you care about their education and the importance of participating in the larger community.  Together we make John Green GREAT!
 
There are several volunteer opportunities that are before or after working hours (Donuts with Dad, Muffins with Mom, Science Fair, Science Night, Fall Festival, Family Movie Night, etc.)
 
If we all give an hour, we will have wonderful events for our children and we know you will enjoy the time spent!

John Green Elementary School is excited to participate in the Oakland A's Step Up to the Plate for Education program for the 2014 season! Students, parents, and their friends and families have the opportunity to purchase special fundraising tickets for select A's games.  A portion of each ticket will go directly back to the school. Tickets for the select games are limited - to participate in this special offer, we recommend purchasing tickets ASAP to reserve the best seats. June 19 is John Green Elementary School's Day at the A's. In addition to this game, there are 5 other games to choose from including giveaway days, Mother's Day, Memorial Day, and a game vs. the Boston Red Sox. The school with the highest amount of ticket sales will get to meet an A's player at their school.  Last year's school sold over 450.  Also, the class with the highest amount of ticket sales will get a pizza party!  Deadline for sales is on April 30th.  Let's beat that so we can win!!! John Green Girl Scout Troop 31766 has been working on their Brownie Journey "WOW Wonders of Water" all school year and as their final step they have made posters with examples on how you can help save water.  You can find these posters around school, near water fountains and in the restroom.   There girls have learned there are many ways to save water and how important it is, especially since we are in a drought.

Saturday June 28, 2014 @ 7:30 at the Stanford Stadium as they take on the Galaxy.  $5 from each ticket sold will benefit John Green Elementary. Enjoy exclusive savings and pay NO sales tax, surcharges or fees.

Wear GREEN on Fridays to show your school spirit!  You can wear John Green Shirts or any other green!

You are invited to attend Green's Family Movie Night on Friday, May 2, at 6:30 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room.  

The PFC will be showing Frozen (Rated PG).  

Feel free to bring blankets, pillows, snacks and drinks for you and your student to enjoy during the movie!  We hope to see you there!  

It's sure to be a fun time for all!

Note: Students will not be permitted without adult supervision!

PFC wants to thank Sil and Bettina Cruz for chairing Muffins with Mom.  Students and moms love this event every year.  Thank you to all the dads who volunteered to help serve breakfast and make the moms feel special!  Thanks, Mr. Nomura, for dressing in a tux each year and giving us a flower.  That is an extra special touch!
