Seasonal maintenance on your dump body...
Author: J.Supnet

HOIST - FRONT MOUNT

When most truck owners hear or think of the words "seasonal maintenance" they often think of the tune-up work and regular service that is performed on their truck. This often means checking the tires, batteries, engine, and oil levels etc. If you have a truck with a dump body then you have to consider seasonal maintenance on the dump body as well. This includes the cylinder that lifts the body up and down, the central hydraulic system that powers that cylinder, and mounting structure of the body.  Below you'll find a preventative maintenance list for your dump body. They are not tips, but are best practices to ensure that your body gets the service and care it needs to remain on the road or at the job site.

  1. Keep your unit as clean as possible, When washing the hoist and under-body area make sure your body is propped securely and that its support is entirely independent of the hoist system. In areas where salt is used on the roads, wash your unit before storing it for the weekend during salt season. Avoid spraying water directly at the cylinder or oil tank breather.

  2. After washing, check all hoses and drive lines for wear or sign of rubbing.

  3. Check all mounting brackets and bolts. Tighten bolts if necessary.

  4. Inspect your rear hinge assembly for wear or signs of weld failure. Make sure hinge pins are securely locked in place.

  5. Inspect all pins off lift unit to make sure they are securely locked in place. Check ram nut securing pins.

  6. Check P.T.O. daily for leakage of transmission fluid. Check P.T.O. bolts and oil level weekly.

  7. Grease or oil all hinges, pivots, and controls as necessary.

  8. Inspect all cylinder ram nuts and mounting bolts.

  9. Check hinges, chains, etc. regularly for any signs of loosening or wear.

Note: Make sure that the body is securely propped when performing these inspections or before going under the raised body at any time for any reason.

Note: Any loosening off of cylinder ram nuts indicates potentially serious problems. This condition should be checked and corrected immediately by qualified personnel before any further use of the hoist.
