Verizon Wireless and Verizon Foundation Present $65,000 check to Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation

Officials with Verizon Wireless and the Verizon Foundation recently presented a $65,000 HopeLine grant to the Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation® at Emerson Middle School in Union City.

The grant will be used to support the Foundation's educational initiative, Margaret's Place, at Emerson Middle School - in addition to other locations throughout the region. Margaret's Place offers students a "safe room" in schools to talk with each other and a professional counselor about violence-related issues.

Stand & Deliver honored Verizon with its Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Award at its 16th-annual event to honor community members dedicated to positive change in the lives of youth.

The award was accepted by Leecia Eve, Vice President, State Government Affairs for New Jersey, New York and Connecticut Region for Verizon, during the May 12th program in Belleville.

Charging Station Nearly a week after 85-mile per hour winds knocked the power out at her Gloucester County home, Patricia McConnell learned that a Verizon charging station was available at the Red Cross Reception Center at the Mount Royal Fire Department.

"Verizon was a real lifesaver for us," McConnell said. "We were lucky to find that station."
