Do Something Fun With Your Dog This Summer

Hope you and your dog(s) are having a great summer:

Buddy and I have been training for our Nose Work NW2 title and traveled to
Salem Oregon in July. Read on to find out how Buddy did at the Salem event.

Buddy the Beagle Hits the Road
to Compete in his First NW2 Nose Work Competition
We finally got into a NW2 trial but it was 10 hours from home in Salem Oregon. The NACSW NW2 (National Association of Canine Scent Work Nose Work 2 Title) competitions in California have been extremely hard to get into and there have been few available. So when we were accepted from the wait list just 3 weeks prior to the event we accepted and started making our plans for a big road trip.

Buddy got his NW1 title in October 2014 on his first try but this was the first NW2 we could get into since then. So for the last 9 months we have been training and preparing for this moment. My training partners, Jasen Duncan and Shasta, having been meeting with us almost on a weekly basis for last 7 months.

In competition there are four Search areas: Exterior, Interior, Container and Vehicle.
The videos show 3 of the 4 search areas.

To earn a title a dog must find all the hides within a search area within a specified time (there can be 1 or 2 hides within a search area). Times vary based on the number of hides and the difficulty of the search. Usually it is around 3 minutes per search area.

Dogs can also win ribbons for best times in each search area and for best overall performance in all four searches. To earn a title the dog must find all the hides in all the search areas in the allotted time.

Overall, Buddy came in 19th out of 38 dogs.
