Happy Holidays!
Christmas is coming and it's time to get Fido ready for guests and celebrations. It's not too late to brush up on your dog's manners and obedience. Start working your dog daily so you can include him in your holiday celebrations. Run him through some daily obedience exercises such as sit, down, stay, place and practice with the doorbell and people coming in to your home. It is also the time of year that a lot of dogs get sick from getting into holiday foods and candy, especially chocolate and alcohol or get injured from Christmas decorations, gift wrapping and electrical cords. Dogs especially puppies love to play with sparkly, swinging ornaments hanging from the Christmas tree. Also, young dogs especially puppies like to chew on extension cords that light up the tree. Make sure ornaments are placed high enough so the dog can't get them and tuck away cords so they are out of chewing range. Make sure not to put presents with edible food under the Christmas tree. And lastly make sure you do not let your family or guests feed your dog scraps and sweets from the dinner table.
Here's to you and your dog(s) having a Happy and Safe Holiday Season. Best Wishes, Steve Bettcher IACP Certified Dog Trainer |
