Big Prizes, Great Good, Exciting Games and Unexpected Surprises

The Chamber's Speakeasy/Casino Night is this Saturday, March 23rd at 6pm in the new Millennium Center, 20 West Main in Cortez.  Tickets are $35 each and include your secret password and $200 in gambling chips to begin play. Reserve your ticket by calling the Chamber at 565-3414.

Not a gambler? Not a problem! The Chamber's Speakeasy is a social night; a night to dress up, (if you choose to), eat, visit and rub elbows with the who's-who in our community.

Enjoy a speakeasy style buffet, cash bar and as a special treat, remember your extraordinary evening by having your portrait taken as you come in.

There will be excitement, surprises, laughs and fabulous prizes.  Rumor has it that there will be fun, unexpected dealers for the casino games.  Don't miss it and let your friends tell you about all the fun they had. Get your tickets and join us! Remember what happens at a Chamber event, stays at a Chamber event!

Speakeasies popped up during the 1920's during prohibition along with bathtub gin, bootlegging and the jazz age. Speakeasies or juice joints were hidden in attics, basement, office buildings, rooming houses and personal homes. They were often run by the mob and the level of secrecy tended to lend to the excitement. There were different ways to learn about a speakeasy. Most commonly, one had to have been invited by a regular patron and then given a secret password to enter.
