Bird Walks
April 8, 22
The wetlands within Whitewater Canyon attract many local and migrating birds. Join us for a walk through different habitats while looking for some of the more than 216 bird species that frequent the preserve. Bring binoculars and scopes.
Youth Catch and Release Fishing
April 12, 27
For ages 8 to 18.
Ranger and Docent led program. The program will start with a short walk to the river and then back to the ponds to sharpen your angling skills and perhaps catch your first fish. We provide all necessary gear. Bring water and a picnic for afterwards. RESERVATIONS REQUIRED
Volunteer Projects
April 6
Help us care
for the preserve by joining ranger-led work projects. Projects include trail building and maintenance, invasive plant removal, general clean-up, and native plant restoration. Be prepared to get dirty!

Whitewater Preserve
Pacific Crest Trail: UP Close and Personal
April 5th, 2 to 3:30 pm
Former TWC ranger, Jamie Haney hiked the Pacific Crest Trail last year. Jamie will share her epic 2600 plus-mile adventure through a presentation with stories and photos. She will bring her backpack, gear and copies of great guide books she used on the trail. Get inspired to do your own day, section, or thru hike, or come because you are curious about the PCT. RESERVATIONS REQUIRED.  *This program is full, but there is a waiting list.

Power Walk
April 12th, 9 am to 3 pm
Get up and get out! Join a naturalist on a fast-paced one-mile walk. Enjoy fresh air, vitamin D, increased cardio vascular health and a bump in your endorphins - all in a one-hour morning walk. RESERVATIONS REQUIRED.

Mission Creek Preserve to Whitewater Preserve Hike
April 13th, 9 am to 3 pm
This is a great way to see two of our desert preserves and venture into the backcountry. The 6.5 mile moderate to strenuous hike begins at the Mission Creek Preserve gate and ends at Whitewater Preserve. Hikers will meet at the Mission Creek Preserve gate at 9 am. It is important to be on time, as we will be accessing the preserve through a locked gate. Late hikers will be locked out. A water crossing is part of the hike, so plan for wet feet. Bring at least two liters of water, lunch, snacks, and all necessary sun protection. Hikers are responsible for transportation from Whitewater Preserve back to their vehicles at Mission Creek Preserve. RESERVATIONS REQUIRED.

Stargazing
April 19th, 7:30 to 10:00 pm
Bring your family. Join us in the canyon for an evening under the stars. Learn stargazing tips, how to use a star chart with binoculars, or peer through a telescope into deep space. Bring a chair or blanket, binoculars, and fixin's for s'mores (campfire subject to weather and fire danger). RESERVATIONS REQUIRED.
Canyon View Loop Hike
April 26th, 9 am to 11:30 am
Looking for a slightly longer hike? This trail is 3.5 miles round trip with a 500' elevation gain and spectacular views of Whitewater Canyon. Bring at least 1 liter of water, a snack and all necessary sun protection. Those preferring a shorter, 1 mile hike are welcome to turn around at the Pacific Crest Trail junction. Call to make a RESERVATION and/or for more information.

All hikes start at 9 am from the Ranger Station.  The Sawtooth loop hikers will travel by car to the trailhead after gathering at Ranger Station. For more information about hike length and difficulty, call the Preserve at 760-369-7105.  RSVP by calling the Preserve.  
Geology Walk
Explore the Geology of Pipes Canyon
Saturday, April 26, 9am to 12:30 pm
 
Joe Migliore will lead this walk both on preserve lands and in the surrounding area with a focus on Pipes Canyon and the surrounding volcanic mesas.
 
Meet in the Ranger Station and be prepared to walk. Difficulty is easy to moderate. Bring a sack lunch or snack.

Special Events and Regularly Scheduled Programs are also made available at no cost to participants (except fundraisers).  This is all made possible through generous donations made by TWC's visitors and supporters.
