Holiday Volunteer Open House
Every year, Evergreen Habitat for Humanity depends on volunteer labor to build decent, safe and affordable homes for hardworking Clark County families. This year, we at Evergreen Habitat would like to personally thank all our hardworking volunteers by hosting a Volunteer Appreciation Holiday Open house on Tuesday, December 11th, at 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. There will be treats, cheers and prizes for our volunteers and their families.
"Our volunteers are the backbone of this organization. Our mission is simple: we seek to put God's love into action, by bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. Without our volunteers, our mission would not be possible." says Josh Townsley, Evergreen's Executive Director.
Our volunteers work rain or shine and build all year long. They come as individuals or in groups from churches, corporations and educational institutions, including the local high schools. Already in 2012, 7,743 volunteers hours were donated by our generous volunteers.
Seven families have been served in 2012. The Cabrera and Griffin homes were completed and dedicated in January, the Bastidas (Women Build) home this past September, and the Adams family home is on track to be finished by the end of December. Three other homes have been started in 2012 for the Murphy, Danforth and Zeismier families. "It's been a very busy year for Evergreen Habitat. Never before in our history have so many homes been constructed in a single year by our affiliate", says Brady Winsten, Evergreen's Volunteer Coordinator.
Our top volunteers in hours for this year are Dennis Smith, Dennis Ziesemer, Lloyd Viles, Rich Helmke, Joel Baxter, Terri Brouillet, Camille Wright, Barbara Harmon, Gerri Colburn, David Hayes, John DiVittorio, Andy Costello, Arnie Perez, Sheri Ziesemer, and Christy Adams.

Construction Briefs With four homes under construction for Evergreen Habitat, it has been a very busy year! The Adams family home started construction with the traditional ground blessing in July, and will be done by the end of the year. Christy Adams works full time and has put in 278 sweat equity hours already with her home to be completed by the end of December.
Construction on the Ziesemer home is well underway with the foundation poured and the decking going on this week. This home is being built in conjunction with Quail Homes and Planet Clark, making it the first partnership of its kind in Clark County. The Emerald Home will showcase the future of green building with over 50% reductions in water and energy usage. Also for the first time, Evergreen Habitat is partnering with the Evergreen School District, building the Danforth family home with a younger generation of builders. Students at Evergreen High School and Mt. View High School are working side by side to put math and construction skills together. Under the supervision of teacher Bill Culver at Evergreen High School and teachers Eric Dodge and Kristy Gilmore at Mt. View High School, the students work on their own construction site located on the schools campus. This program "Math in Construction" promotes academic rigor, real world relevance, and positive working relationships. When the schools have completed their portion of the home, it will be trucked over to the actual lot on Lincoln street where final construction will take place.
Last but not least is the Murphy family home. The ground was blessed in July and the trench work is being done so the sewer system can go in this week. The Murphy family home is sponsored by Wells Fargo. Kathy Murphy, the home owner has had the pleasure of having her oldest daughter, Kristen, work on the site with her as well as various other volunteer opportunities such as A Brush with Kindness, the Day of Service and a Women Build project. |

Volunteer Spotlight:
Dennis Ziesemer
What do you get when you combine an architect, a dedicated volunteer and an all around great guy? You get Dennis Ziesemer, a rock-star of a volunteer and future Habitat Homeowner. Dennis has been volunteering to get his required 250 sweat equity hours in, but as of this date Dennis has put in 451 hours, all before the decking on his house is even completed! Dennis not only swings a hammer, drives the truck, and is a valued "can do anything" volunteer but he also designed not one, but two of the current Habitat Homes. He can do it all! Thank you Dennis for all that you do.
