FACC-Michigan

July 2014 Highlights

 Lettre du Président

Bonjour à tous,

Meilleurs voeux à tous pour la fête nationale du 14 Juillet.

It is with great pleasure that I wish you all a happy "Bastille Day". Every July 14th is the occasion for France to celebrate its common heritage, its values, and its armed forces. The FACC, together with the Alliances Françaises of the Detroit area, contributes to the organization of this event in your region and allows the French expatriate community to gather and celebrate the day far away from home.

This July may be also the time to celebrate the accomplishments of  all French firms, large and small, in Michigan. According to the most recent release of "Automotive News", establishing the ranking of all automotive suppliers in North America, Faurecia ranked 6th based on its 2013 North America OEM automotive parts sales of $6,467M, followed by Valeo ranking 22nd with $2,597M, Plastic Omnium ranking 35th with $1,928M and Michelin ranking 80th with $640M.  All 4 companies had growing sales compared to 2012, not only in North America but also worldwide.

These large corporations should not mask the successes of other smaller, but nonetheless as dynamic and successful, organizations. French companies are the 3rd largest foreign investor in Oakland county. These entrepreneur- and innovation-based companies in the automotive sector and elsewhere constitute a strength for the French-American economic tissue of the region.

Cordialement,

Cédric Ballarin,

Freep 5: Great Places for French Food on Bastille Weekend

Rack of Lamb Genghis Kahn, served here with Dauphinoise potatoes and glazed carrots, is a signature dish of the Lark in West Bloomfield.

France's most important national holiday, Bastille Day, is July 14 - 10 days after our own Fourth of July. It commemorates the storming of the Bastille in Paris, which started the French Revolution, and it's celebrated all over France with parades, fireworks, concerts, communal meals and other festivities.

On this side of the pond, we're not likely to have a parade for the French. But a French meal isn't a bad idea. In fact, it's a very good one!

While you won't necessarily feel transported to Paris by these restaurants, you'll find more than a little French influence on all their menus. With that caveat, here are five great places to enjoy some French flavor right in our own backyards. Note that the holiday falls on a Monday, when some restaurants take a day off, so call ahead or check websites for schedules before setting out in your jaunty beret.

Member News: Faurecia Opens New North American HQ in Auburn Hills

About 700 employees have moved into the new Faurecia North American Headquarters and Seating Technical Center, at 2800 High Meadow Cir. in Auburn Hills, which will officially open its doors next week.

"This isn't your traditional office space," says Tony Sapienza, a spokesman for the automotive supplier. "It's office space, plus a working technical center. (It) gathers several teams together under one roof and allows us to enhance our capabilities and the expertise that we're able to provide our customers."
