Greetings! ,
Alpar is pleased to announce the release of Living Building Challenge (LBC) Declare labels. The Living Building Challenge (LBC) is our industry's most rigorous green building standard. One requirement is that products do not contain certain chemicals of concern including heavy metals, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), halogenated fire retardants, petrochemical fertilizers (view full the list). Manufacturers can communicate chemical information and other environment-related attributes through the LBC Declare label. Reducing our products' impacts on human and environmental health was the key driver in developing deTerra biobased polymer. We are pleased that our products do not contain any LBC red list chemicals. Alpar leads the industry in transparency. In addition to publishing declare labels, we participated in the Health Product Declaration (HPD) pilot project and were one of the first manufacturers to release HPDs for our products. In addition, Alpar participated fully in the release of the wall protection category in Pharos. View our declare labels by clicking here and here. View one of our HPDs by clicking here. LEED v4 and the Living Building Challenge will bring greater attention to the need for transparency, but creating healthier buildings doesn't need to be limited to certain certifications. As designers, you have the opportunity to drive the industry toward greater transparency on all of your projects. We urge you to reward manufacturers that are willing to share information and phase out chemicals of concern. You can make healthy materials the new standard. As always, I welcome your questions and comments. Sincerely, Lisa Britton, CSI, CCPR, LEED AP BD+C
