In July, MMBA, in partnership with Anheuser-Busch, is coordinating the First Annual Municipal "Support OUR Troops" Supplies Drive benefiting local active military personnel. This is an effort to support active military personnel in the local area serving our country around the world. Members will be collecting both supplies and funds and donating everything to the service members of their choice. This project is part of a year- long series of events to help members Promote the Community Value of their Municipal Liquor Operation. Earlier this year, several Metro members partnered with Pabst on a Coat Drive (A program projected to expand throughout the state) and Miller Lite on an Animal Supplies Drive. I was recently reminded the winners of an additional contribution to their Animal Supplies recipient were never announced: Ada Brooklyn Center Buffalo Lake Callaway Edina Lakeville Nevis Roseau Stacy Sports Grill Coming in October is the cornerstone event, the annual MMBA Food Drive. Because we live in the land of Minnesota Nice, we have been taught to wait for people to notice the value we bring to their lives and never toot our own horns or seek praise for our accomplishments. If someone does commend Minnesotans on a job well done, we have been trained to humbly thank the person and mumble something to the effect that "It was nothing." However, if members don't regularly promote the positive contributions their facilities bring to the community, who will? Because I can't expect everyone to be able to change their Minnesota niceness overnight, I am giving each member the following decree: Minnesota Nice Exemption This decree entitles the bearer to boldly go forth into the community and spread the word of all the good works and services provided directly or indirectly by their Municipal Liquor Store. This certificate enables you to drop the Minnesota Nice demeanor any time it is necessary to educate the public, city council, press or legislators about the value a Municipal Liquor Stores brings to your community.
Any misuse of the certificate for out-and-out nastiness (ex. kicking dogs, tripping people, abusing your Executive Director, etc.) will be referred to a higher authority. Proclaimed by: Paul Kaspszak MMBA Executive Director
