Seventeenth Sunday After Pentecost
September 11, 2016

"We invite everyone to share communion around God's altar.

We strive to be a welcoming and relevant Christian community doing what matters through prayer, worship, teaching, outreach, fellowship, and service.

We will demonstrate the real life application of scripture, tradition, and
reason by providing a safe place to respond to each other's needs,
hurts, joys, and interests."

Meet Our New Parish Administrator
Cassie Abernathy

My name is Cassie Abernathy and I have lived in Sautee for over 25 years.  I met my husband, Brad Abernathy, at Unicoi State Park in 1994, and we married in February of 1995. We have four wonderful children, Bryson age 20, Crawford age 19, Faith age 15 and Josiah age 13. Brad has been teaching art for 22 years at White County High School. I had the privilege of staying home with all of our children until they were school age. Our three older ones all attended Resurrection Preschool. Our youngest, Josiah, was born with Down Syndrome, and he required a little more from me until he began school, so I kept a few children in our home to get him acclimated to the social challenges he would face. He has proven to be such a blessing to all of us. Our older three children have a unique insight into the differences in people. We have all learned that patience and understanding are things you work for and must practice every day when being the role model to a special needs child. Josiah is the most loving, forgiving and delightful child I've had the privilege to know. Our oldest son married a very sweet girl this past July and I can now claim another daughter. Crawford is in college, Faith is in the 10th grade, and Josiah is in 6th.  I enjoy being outside and spending time with my family. We stay very busy doing fun activities, and we are all very thankful for this beautiful place we call home. I love to write, read and kayak. My family is very important to me, and I'm excited about new things I will experience as our children grow, go to college, marry and become the adults we've raised them to be.

*Note: Cassie's office hours will be Tuesday thru Thursday 8:00-2:00*

Our Anthem This Week:
To commemorate 9/11 Remembrance Day
Let There Be Peace on Earth
By Jill Jackson & Sy Miller

Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me.
Let there be peace on earth
The peace that was meant to be.
With God our Creator
Children all are we.
Let us walk with each other
In perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me
Let this be the moment now.
With every step I take
Let this be my solemn vow.
To take each moment
And live each moment
With peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth,
And let it begin with me.

Anti-Racism Training
September 24, 2016 9:00-4:00
ONLY 4 SLOTS LEFT

The Anti-Racism Training model of the Episcopal Church is designed to make us all more aware of how society's racist past still haunts us today. Through self-examination and sharing our stories, we come to learn more about how our behavior affects others, and how our society, institutions and churches affect how we think and feel about others. After anti-racism training, you will never watch the news the same again!

More information and registration

Resurrection is hosting the next training for the Northeast Convocation on Saturday, September 24, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.  Dr. Catherine Meeks will facilitate the training.  We will be providing a sub sandwich lunch for the group, so we would appreciate donations of chips, salad and desserts. We will have the number of attendees closer to time of the event.  Please contact Denise Dorsey if you have any questions.

Since 1991, General Convention has committed the Episcopal Church to address racism within our church, society and the world. We all recognize when obvious racism, discrimination or oppression occurs, but many of us are completely unaware of the subtle racism that occurs everyday all around us and how we are involved in perpetuating it. To better educate ourselves about the underlying racism in our daily lives and institutions, all lay and ordained leaders in the Episcopal Church are required to attend anti-racism training. Each and every member of the church can also be involved in the effort to end the institutional racism that exists in the church. Together we can make our church a welcoming place, devoid of racism and any form of prejudice and discrimination.

Working together for justice.

Resurrection To Host Family Promise
October 23-30 & January 15-22

Family Promise now has two families in the program. The hosting churches are working hard to schedule the families into their busy church calendars.  Some of the host churches have taken two weeks in a row in order to help fill the gaps in the hosting schedule. At times there is a need for volunteer to provide a meal or spend the night.  If you would like to help, I will have a sign-up sheet in the Narthex for volunteers.

Resurrection Church will be hosting the families October 23-30 this year and January 15-22, 2017.  Faith Lutheran Church congregation has graciously agreed to allow us to use their fellowship hall to host the families.  Our third host week will be at our church next summer. Call me if you have any questions and thank you volunteering.
