Third Sunday after Pentecost
"We invite everyone to share communion around God's altar.
We strive to be a welcoming and relevant Christian community doing what matters though prayer, worship, teaching, outreach, fellowship, and service.
We will demonstrate the real life application of scripture, tradition and reason by providing a safe place to respond to each other's needs, hurts, joys and interests."

Resurrection Books of Inspiration
The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls
The Glass Castle is a 2005 memoir by Jeannette Walls. The book recounts Walls' and her siblings' unconventional, poverty-stricken upbringing at the hands of their deeply dysfunctional parents. For two decades, Jeannette Walls hid her roots. Now she tells her own story.
What is so astonishing about Jeannette Walls is not just that she had the guts and tenacity and intelligence to get out, but that she describes her parents with such deep affection and generosity. Jeanette's book is a story of triumph against all odds, but also a tender, moving tale of unconditional love in a family that despite its profound flaws gave her the fiery determination to carve out a successful life on her own terms.
Walls is now a regular contributor to MSNBC.com. The book is being made into a movie starring Jennifer Lawrence.
This book is not for the faint of heart; the recollections are vivid and her father's language is colorful. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Family Promise
Comes to Resurrection
Resurrection will host Family Promise families in distress in only eight more days! Family Promise is White County's first and only homeless shelter. Since we are the first church to host guests, let us show them some Resurrection hospitality.
We still have openings for dinner hosts, evening hosts and overnight hosts. The first week's schedule will be posted on the board in the Parish Hall this Sunday. Please look at the open dates and consider choosing a time or two to volunteer. We need your help to make this program work.
If you have any questions, Cathy Parrish will be available before and after both services this Sunday. She will also have some extra volunteer guides for those of you that did not make it to the first training session.
Below is a list of our parish coordinators for Family Promise. Contact them to volunteer.
Primary Coordinator:
Cathy Parrish (cdparrish@windstream.net) - Welcomes guests at Sunday on Sunday. Manages the program during host week. The on call and go to person the entire week.
Assistant Coordinators: Host Coordinator - Bobbi Rees (bobbi.rees@gmail.com). Schedules the evening and overnight volunteers insuring there are enough volunteers. Meal Coordinator - Lana Brown (reb34@windstream.net). Oversees the menu-planning to avoid meal duplication as well as insuring balanced meals. Schedules volunteers who are preparing and serving dinner. Supply Coordinator - Lana and Bobbi. Stocks the needed staples by purchasing items or through donations. Activity Coordinator - (Need Volunteer) Plans special events, arts-and-crafts activities, and games for children. Stephanie Bolton had youth group to prepare a welcome banner and they have gathered games for the children. Donation Coordinator - Don and Cathy Parrish. Collects and organizes donations of clothing, furniture, and household items; arranges distribution to guests once they are in permanent housing. |
