The COMPTEL PLUS Fall 2013 Golf Tournament will tee off Monday, September 23, 2013, at the Celebration Golf Club, giving COMPTEL PLUS attendees a chance to network in a fun, relaxed setting. The tournament is being sponsored by Edison Carrier Solutions. Oracle is sponsoring a beverage cart and golf holes, with additional holes sponsored by Peerless Network and Sprint.

Celebration Golf Club is a highly rated Orlando course that offers players challenges, such as strategic hazards and difficult greens, throughout a picturesque setting. The course was ranked as one of the "Top 25 Public Courses" in Golf World's Readers' Choice Awards, rated 4 ½ Stars and one of the Top 200 in North America for Service & Course Conditioning by Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play" and is among the Top 25 Best Family Golf Resorts according to Golf Digest Magazine.

Golf Registration Now Open
Golf registration is available on a first-come, first-served basis. You must be registered for the COMPTEL PLUS Fall 2013 Convention & EXPO to participate in this tournament.

To secure your tournament tee time, please fill out the entire golf registration form. If you do not have a verifiable handicap, please compute an honest average handicap. The entry fee is $155 per person and includes greens fees and cart, coffee, breakfast, lunch and prizes. Rental clubs are available for $40.

Markey to be Sworn in to Senate on July 16

Edward Markey is set to become the newest Senator from Massachusetts, after winning a special election to fill the seat of Sen. John Kerry, who resigned when he was appointed U.S. Secretary of State. Markey's swearing in will take place at 10 a.m. on July 16 in the Senate.

 

House Subcommittee Hears from Witnesses on Process Reform at the Federal Communications Commission

On July 11, the House Energy & Commerce Committee Subcommittee on Communications and Technology hosted a hearing on "Improving FCC Process." Witnesses at the hearing included Stuart M. Benjamin, Douglas B. Maggs chair in Law and associate dean for Research at Duke Law; Larry Downes, Internet industry analyst and author, including "The FCC's Unstructured Role in Transaction Reviews;" Robert M. McDowell, former FCC Commissioner and visiting fellow at the Hudson Institute; Randolph J. May, president of Free State Foundation; Richard J. Pierce Jr., Lyle T. Alverson professor of Law at George Washington University Law School; and James Bradford Ramsay, general counsel at National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners. Subcommittee Hearing on Cyber Espionage

On July 9, the House Energy & Commerce Committee's Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations hosted hearing on "Cyber Espionage and the Theft of U.S. Intellectual Property and Technology," featuring witnesses that included former Sen. Slade Gorton, a member of the Commission on the Theft of American Intellectual Property; Larry M. Wortzel, Ph.D., commissioner of the U.S.- China Economic and Security Review Commission; James A. Lewis, director and senior fellow, Technology and Public Policy Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies; and Susan Offutt, chief economist, Applied Research and Methods at the Government Accountability Office.  A webcast, statements and written testimony from the witnesses is now available on the subcommittee's website.
