Eckert Seamans to Sponsor Half-Day Workshop on Interconnection at COMPTEL PLUS in Las Vegas
The workshop, which is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to Noon at the Aria Resort & Casio, will review the ongoing significance of interconnection negotiations and arbitrations under the Telecom Act's Section 251/252 process, and consider the future of Section 251/252 negotiations and arbitrations for competitive carriers. The workshop will address critical topics, including the ILEC attempts to sidestep the Section 251/252 process for SIP interconnection, and whether issuing phone numbers directly to non-carrier VoIP providers will undermine the competitive and consumer protection provisions of the Act. The workshop will include input from competitive providers that have attempted to obtain IP interconnection agreements from incumbent carriers, as well as a discussion of IP interconnection efforts between competitive providers. Topics also will include a review of recent and ongoing interconnection proceedings, ongoing challenges for competitive carriers in the Section 251/252 process and the mechanics of navigating the Section 251/252 process. The panels will be moderated by Jim Falvey, Deanne O'Dell, and Brett Freedson, who are all telecom partners at Eckert Seamans.
