Global Manager of Viral Clearance and Global Coordinator of Virology

Dr. Horst Ruppach studied chemistry at the University of Cologne and the University of Marburg, Germany. He earned his PhD in Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) research in the laboratories of Dr. Rübsamen-Waigmann at the Georg-Speyer-Haus in Frankfurt, Germany. 

He now has global responsibilities for virus safety and supervises the virus clearance departments in Cologne, Germany, and Malvern, PA, USA. Currently, he is establishing new state-of-the art virus clearance laboratories at the Great Valley, PA, site and harmonizing the quality assurance systems and operational procedures of both sites. 

Dr. Ruppach has more than 20 years of experience in the field of virology and is a proven expert for technical and regulatory aspects of virus safety in compliance with GLP/GMP requirements.

Charles River has acquired Accugenix, Inc., the premier global provider of cGMP-compliant contract microbial identification testing. This acquisition strengthens Charles River's Endotoxin and Microbial Detection (EMD) portfolio of products and services by providing clients with state-of-the-art microbial detection services for manufacturing in the biopharmaceutical, medical device, nutraceutical and consumer care industries.

Our facility in Cologne offers comprehensive GLP-compliant services for virus and TSE validation studies of biopharmaceuticals. The state-of-the-art facility offers more flexibility and improved timelines for clients.  

This BPS facility has the ability to handle up to five studies in parallel, which means more flexibility and improved timelines for clients, all while providing a more comfortable working environment. The space also features an improved "zone" configuration, enabling a clearer, leaner workflow that further ensures contamination avoidance and GLP compliance, as well as maximizing worker safety.

The facility will be complemented by our new facility in Great Valley, PA, USA opening in early 2013.
