Children at Keonepoko Elementary place notes for Goddess Pele

Those who live in cultures which still honor and respect nature and the natural cycles, also tend to respect the 'deities' long considered to be associated with the land, as 'guardians'.

During the recent volcanic activity in the Big Island of Hawaii, the Los Angeles Times (Nov 3) reported that the school children of Keonepoko Elementary School wrote heartfelt notes to the Goddess Pele, which they tied to the chain link fence of their school:  "Aloha Madame Pele. We love and honor you," began a note to the volcano goddess. "Please protect this place, Keonepoko. May we return to continue to educate the keiki of Hawai'i nei," the children of beloved Hawaii.

There are noticeable changes taking place on our planet, which will impact our way of life, more immediately, or eventually.  It is inevitable.  As part of this experience, as individuals, we are being asked to open ourselves to an expansion of our consciousness. This means letting go of at least some of our basic attachments, identifications and associations. If you think about how hard it can be, to part with a favorite piece of clothing, which represents familiarity, comfort, coziness - then you know what I mean.  When we have to part with our opinions, mindsets, belief systems, perhaps our habit of complaining, and especially, letting go of our 'stories', that which we use to justify ourselves, and our 'position' - well, it takes practice, courage and conviction.

Given the numerology and astrology of 2014, I was aware that this year would ask much of us, in terms of personal growth.  I myself experienced a conjunction of transiting Chiron (the wounded healer) to my Pisces Moon all year.   I could not have imagined just how much of a shift this would create within me, and how much I would have to let go of (from an inner perspective).  I am thankful that I have had some prior experience with this type of inner work, and aware that it comes as a gift, for which I am deeply grateful.

With 2015 around the corner, this is the perfect time to think about how we might give closure to 2014.  Even though ceremonies which mark the passage of time, are not as common in our society as they once were, we can always create our ceremony, in which we make peace with all that we've experienced this year.  We can give thanks and appreciation for those, and that, which came into our life to teach and transform us and to honor ourselves for being willing to embrace, and to let go.  We can give appreciation for what we have, for all that we are, and for those who continue to shower blessings upon us.

The most powerful ceremonies that I have personally participated in, are yagnas (fire ceremonies), which have been conducted in India for thousands of years.

Many ancient traditions, conduct fire ceremonies, including the 'shamanic' tradition.

If you're looking for a good date in which to create your closing of the year ceremony, the Winter Solstice takes place on December 21!

Oprah speaks on
Career, Life and Leadership

We're right in between saying goodbye to 2014 and welcoming 2015, which makes it the  perfect time to gain insight and perspective, which can help us clarify our personal goals for 2015.

If you have some quality 'just you' time this holiday, I  would recommend listening to this one hour interview, in which Oprah is interviewed by Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Some of what I took away from this interview, is Oprah stating:

1) I have really worked at being grounded and staying awake.  As a result my inner life is really intact.

2) I know my purpose is to connect people with themselves and to raise consciousness.  This also involves keeping myself 'full'.

3) I always start every project I do (small or large) by determining the intention.

4) When I was interviewing staff for the OWN Network, including the CEO, I began each interview by asking the candidate what their current spiritual practice was.

Note:  All times given below are PST

Dec 1:
We'll likely be rearing to get up and get going this morning.  There are good influences for planning/ strategizing.  Mid afternoon aspects could bring a temporary energetic 'glitch', resulting in feeling some irritability.
(Aries Moon trines Sun-Mercury conjunction in Sagittarius between 2:30 - 10:00 am.  Mars in Capricorn sextiles Saturn (Scorpio), exact at 11:00 am; Moon squares Pluto at 2:15 am and conjuncts Uranus at 3:15 pm)

Dec 2:  A positive, energizing Grand Trine in fire this morning can bolster enthusiasm, and kick in a desire for activity and adventure, so that we're thinking about our holiday travel plans.  Impatience and restlessness may show up early evening, but this tends to mellow out as the evening gets under way.
(Moon in Aries trines Venus in Sagittarius at 3:15 am and trines Jupiter in Leo at 8:15 am.  Moon squares Mars (Capricorn) at 6:45 pm)

Dec 4: Two beneficial influences come into place today.  The first influence is considered lucky in  financial matters, romantic and relationship activity, and spiritual blessings.
The afternoon influence is more action oriented.  It promotes self-confidence, trusting and following one's intuitive guidance, and gives a strong sense of direction. These influences can be experienced for several days.
(Sagittarius Venus trines Jupiter in Leo, exact at 11:11 am.  Sagittarius Sun trines Uranus in Aries, exact at 2:30 pm).

Dec 5:  We can take advantage of a productive, focused influence early this morning, but around late morning, we may need to regroup.  By the evening hours we're energized and ready to roc'n'roll with that which calls to us...however, those on the East Coast may find it a little hard to get to sleep!
(Taurus Moon trines Mars in Capricorn, at 3:00 am, followed by Moon squaring Neptune (Pisces) at 11:15 am; Mercury in Sagittarius trines Uranus in Aries, exact at 7:45 pm)
Dec 6:  Full Moon in Gemini.  See 'Lunar Activity'.

Dec 8:  Busy mental influences could interfere with getting quality sleep in the early morning hours,  resulting in feeling irritability and moodiness.  Luckily, this more challenging influence moves along relatively quickly.
(Sun-Mercury conjunction in Sagittarius, exact at 2:00 am;  A T-square configuration comes together, with Cancer Moon opposing Pluto at 9:00 am, and squaring Uranus at 9:32 am)

Dec 9:  The early evening brings forth an aspect which is helps us determine what we need to have in place to care for, and nurture ourselves.
(Cancer Moon trines Saturn (Scorpio), exact at 4:15 pm)

Dec 10:  An early morning influence which can make us feel rushed and put upon, can also result in our ruffling the feathers of those around us.  An evening influence invites us to go with the flow.
(Leo Moon opposes Mars (Aquarius), exact at 3:45 am; Moon trines Uranus (Aries), exact at 8:15 pm)

Dec 11:
Expansive influences come together, creating a desire for social interaction.
(Leo Moon trines Sagittarius Sun & Mercury (10:00 am - 3:00 pm; Moon conjuncts Jupiter, exact at 4:15 pm)

Dec 12: Expansive, uplifting influences take center stage today, attempting to overriding a brief melancholic aspect.  You may be drawn to dial in last minute travel plans for the upcoming holidays.
(Sagittarius Mercury trines Jupiter (Leo), exact at 3:30 am (but remains for many hours). Moon squares Saturn (Scorpio) at 5:00 am.  Moon trines Venus (Sagittarius), exact at 12:45 pm)

Dec 13:  We start the day off with a practical, and productive influence....let's hope it involves more, than being our own snow removal service)
(Virgo Moon trines Pluto (Capricorn) at 8:45 am)

Dec 14: Today brings a potpourri of influences, which lean toward the philosophical.  Morning aspects are good for arts and crafts type activities, baking, or generally, working with our hands. Just after mid- day, we may need a respite from those activities which require mental focus.
(Sagittarius Sun trines Jupiter (Leo), at 8:00 am; Venus (Capricorn) sextiles Neptune (Pisces), exact at 9:00 am; Virgo Moon squares Mercury (Sagittarius) at 12:45 pm. Uranus squares Pluto at 10:15 pm)

Dec 15: Another day with a potpourri of  influences. We may feel reluctant to rush into our day. Lunch time brings a more proactive and focused  energy, combo, which is also good for communication. Late evening can be challenging, so it's a good idea is to 'process' that which didn't go well for us today, BEFORE, we head off to bed.
(Libra Moon in square to Capricorn Venus at 8:30 am; Moon trines Mars (Aquarius), exact at 1:00 pm;    Moon opposes Uranus at 9:00 pm & squares Pluto at 9:15 pm)

Dec 17:  Good 'centering' and 'organizing' aspects abound this morning, followed by more devotional type influences in late afternoon, just in time for the beginning of the Hanukkah celebrations.
(Scorpio Moon sextiles Mercury (Capricorn) at 8:30 am; Moon trines Neptune (Pisces), at 4:30 pm)

Dec 19: A somewhat restrictive emotional influence  crosses our radar briefly, today.
(Moon conjuncts Saturn in Scorpio, at 1:15 pm)

Dec 20:  Here we go again, with a potpourri of influences taking place. Venus wants to have her say today, so be aware of possible passive-aggressive tendencies.  Perhaps, it's about being  caught in the middle of a desire to do our own thing, and show up for others and meet family expectations.  Luckily, there's great communication oriented influences in the mix, which can help disperse any conflict which may arise.
(Venus in Capricorn, squares Uranus (Aries) at 9:00 am, and conjuncts Pluto, at 1:00 pm.  Sagittarius Moon sextiles Mars (Aquarius), at 11:30 am and trines Uranus (Aries), at 11:55 am.  Mars in Aquarius sextiles Uranus, exact at 7:45 pm, but can be experienced for many hours, either side of this time).

Dec 21:  New Moon in Capricorn & Winter Solstice.  See 'Lunar Activity'.

Dec 22: This must be the month for changeable aspects in any given day!  Today begins with a communicative,  practical influence, great for dialing in plans.  Mid afternoon ushers in a frenzied, some- what stressful energyy.  Things settle down in the evening, with a very harmonious influence.
(Moon-Mercury conjunction in Capricorn, at 8:00 am; Capricorn Moon squares Uranus (Aries) at 2:15 pm and conjuncts Pluto, at 2:45 pm.  Moon conjuncts Venus, at 7:15 pm)

Dec 23:  Saturn moves into the sign of Sagittarius.

Dec 24:  Somewhat intense, competitive mental energies abound this evening, making it a good idea to have dinner earlier in the evening.  If you can go the 'informal' route, maybe it's a good idea to have everyone come together after dinner, for a competitive board game.
(Capricorn Mercury squares Uranus in Aries, at 5:30 pm, followed by a Moon-Mars conjunction in Aquarius at 8:30 pm.  Mercury conjuncts Pluto at 11:00 pm)

Dec 25:  This special holiday starts off with a laid back morning influence.  Later in the evening, it's best to schedule a low key activity, like hanging out, sharing a good movie.
(Aquarius Moon opposes Jupiter in Leo, at 7:00 am; Moon squares Saturn (Scorpio), at 8:30 pm)

Dec 26:  Definitely a day for just hanging out, letting go of prior holiday pressures, and enjoying those yummy leftovers.
(Pisces Moon conjuncts Neptune, at 5:00 am; Capricorn Sun sextiles Neptune, at 7:00 pm)

Dec 28:  Be sure to check weather and road conditions, if you're planning on driving some distance this evening...as there can be delays.
(Moon conjuncts Uranus in Aries at 8:15 pm and square Pluto at 9:00 pm)

Dec 29:  It's back to work for many...and of course, with some adjustment.  The first influence of the day is all about action and getting back on the track, but the second influence can create such a 'spaced out' feeling.  Where did we leave our focus and drive?    We can't wait for lunch time - best to get out for a walk, some activity.  Late afternoon, early evening - ahh...we can relax.

Dec 31:  For west coast commuters, that evening commute may go slower than usual.  If you have important plans for the evening, you may want to leave work a little earlier.  Great communication influences abound this evening, which tend to be optimal in a quiet environment, where conversations are easy and relaxed.

Lunar Activity

Dec 6:    Full Moon      14 deg   Gemini        4:27 am

This Full Moon is all about communication & connection. Still riding on the high from the Venus-Jupiter trine in fire (Dec 4) and Sagittarius Sun-Mercury trine to Uranus, (Dec 4-5), we have ideas up the wazoo - now, if we can just sit still long enough to express them!

Dec 21:    New Moon     0 deg  Capricorn     5:36 pm

This New Moon, which is also the Winter Solstice, carries  expansive, transformative energies, ideal for working with intentions.

The day begins with a philosophical Sagittarius Moon in trine to it's ruler, Jupiter (Leo) at 4:30 am, followed by Uranus in Aries going into a 'direct' motion at 2:45 pm.   In late afternoon and early evening, the energies lend themselves to introspection.
