Hello Everyone
I've just retrieved cornbread from the oven on this rainy Saturday night in Sedona. Hastily demolishing our first piece, I remark to my husband, Joseph, about how good it feels to eat something right out of the oven.
He responds with a quote, "Nothin says lovin like something from the oven." "How clever," I remark. "Where did that come from?" "Tolstoy", he answers. I show my amazement and inquire, "really?" "Absolutely," he assures me. I'm back in the kitchen cleaning up, and still thinking about this. I absentmindedly pick up my hearing aid from the kitchen counter and place it in my ear, as I walk back into living room. I ask Joseph for a third time, "Did Tolstoy really say that?" "No", he responds. "I said Pillsbury, as in the Pillsbury Dough Boy, not Tolstoy." Well, we had a great laugh.
As long as we can laugh at ourselves, there's still hope for those of us with hearing loss!
Incidentally, I will be sending out a second newsletter this month, in time for the 2013 Oscars. You'll have an opportunity to win a reading, should you pick the winners in the categories mentioned!
On another note, here's wishing you a fabulous Valentine's Day!

Valentine's Day
The Quest for Love
Valentine's Day isn't just for lovers, but it IS about love! Whether or not we have a significant 'other' in our lives, we can celebrate this holiday by loving and appreciating ourselves, honoring our wisdom and acknowledging our beauty.
Of all we seek to achieve in life, loving ourselves, as we are and for who we are, has to be the single most important thing we can do for ourselves, and yet sometimes it manages to elude us for a long time. It's never too late to be loving and gentle toward ourselves...to take time to listen to our heart and honor our dreams. When we love ourselves unconditionally, we have cultivated a great gift and we have so much to give to others.
Queen of affirmations, Louise Hayes, assures us:
When we're caught up in the bus-i-ness of our lives, perhaps struggling with all that is on our plate, pinned down with a Saturnian serious attitude, it's easy to forget the value of play, which always brings us right back into our heart.
In the month of 'love' it is a good time to remember to laugh, dream and enjoy ourselves. For me, there have always been two activities which draw me back to the experience of light hearted fun. One is swimming, being in any kind of water, and the
other is dabbling in anything which involves
c-o-l-o-r!
If you can use a little help to escape the winter blues, and lighten your spirit, do something refreshing for yourself, and just for yourself, in celebration of Valentine's Day.
If you happen to like color too, and need a little something to inspire you, I am having fun with Flora Bowley's book, "Brave Intuitive Painting." Flora offers e-course (one starting Jan 28). Click the link below to visit her website:

Refreshing the Connection
with our Imagination
|
|
Mercury will be transiting the philosophical, idealistic and imaginative sign of Pisces, February 5 - April 12, and will be in retrograde in the same sign, February 23 - March 16. How might we make time to enoy these illusive energies?
Our society moves at a very fast pace, where we can access instant information about anything and everything, and where we process mountains of information, simultaenously, and without pause.
Most of us enjoy being focused and productive, as part of every day experience. There's always so much to do and if we long for anything, it's finding more TIME to be busy! So, how might we navigate the energies of the planet associated with the mind, Mercury, (which we rely on for sustaining our mental focus) as it is meandering through the other-worldly, timeless sign of Pisces?
Are we ready to dive into the world of our own imagination, carte blanche, without hesitation? What if we took this opportunity to develop our imaginative and intuitive abilities more fully and found ways to weave our discoveries into the conscious experience of our day to day activities? The imagination lights up our inner world, revealing a vast treasure house of riches, which we can experience through dreams, myths, stories and symbolism, and many creative and artistic channels.
There are many who have studied the connection between the inner and outer worlds, from a therapeutical and metaphysical standpoint, and shared their wisdom with us, such as Carl Jung, Edgar Cayce and Joseph Campbell. Scholar and mythologist, Joseph Cambpell, wrote in his well known book, The Hero's Journey - "People say that what we're seeking is the meaning of life. I don't think that's what we're really seeking. I think that what we're seeking is an EXPERIENCE of BEING ALIVE, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will resonate with our innermost being and reality, so that we can actually feel the RAPTURE of being alive." Albert Einstein said, "The intuitive is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift." Powerful words!
The sign of Pisces also has a good connection with the arts, and may kindle within us the desire to learn to play a musical intrument, take up dance or photography, painting or calligraphy, beading or fiber arts or writing. Don't under-estimate what a powerful experience can come from penning your own memoirs, recounting the experiences which brought you to where you are, and who you are today!
However you might be called to enjoy this Piscean influence, I hope it brings forth much joy!

Feb 4 - "Fuzzy" influences are around in spades today. While great for entering into the imagination and the 'dream time', not as well suited for getting things done on planet earth and being all the way in the body. It can feel like Mercury is in retrograde.
(Sagittarius Moon squares a Mars-Neptune conjunction in Pisces, all taking place before 1 pm).
Feb 6 - Favorable Venus aspects falling at each end of the day, are good for enjoying social activity and events which sponsor collaborative, collective, efforts and involvement. These expansive, harmonius aspects are also considered beneficial for financial matters and matters of the heart. However, if you plan on signing legally binding contracts and agreements today, think it through thoroughly. It's easy to be influenced by the highly idealistic Mercury - Neptune conjunction in Pisces. This receptive, imaginative influence lends itself to being drawn toward spiritual, artistic and altruistic endeavors.
(Venus (Aquarius) sextiles Uranus (Aries) at 11:00 am and Venus trines Jupiter (Gemini) at 10:00 pm; Mercury conjuncts Neptune in Pisces at 3:00 pm).
Feb 8 - 11 - A blend of energies surround the Aquarius New Moon on Saturday evening. With the idealistic Pisces-Sagittarius mix, we long for magical and noble quests, which offer inspiration, and other-worldly experiences, and which allow an escape from the more mundane aspects of our lives. At the other end of the spectrum, we are aware of the emotionally dense experience created by a Saturn-Moon-Venus mix, which can play havoc with our psychological outlook.
It's easy to slip into addictive patterns, less we take the time to find the balancing act between the two worlds described above.
(Feb 8: Mercury-Mars conjunction in Pisces at 10 am and Moon-Jupiter trine at 10:00 pm;
Feb 9: Pisces Mercury squares Jupiter at 4:00 am and Aquarius Moon squares Saturn at 6:15 am; Mars squares Jupiter at midnight
Feb 10: Moon-Neptune conjunction at 5:30 pm and Venus squares Saturn at 10:45 pm;
Feb 11: Pisces Moon conjuncts Mars and Mercury 2:00 - 6:00 am.
Feb 12: A stabilizing influence today helps bring us back to center.
(Mercury-Saturn trine at 11:15;
(Jupiter and Uranus are close to an exact sextile to each other, along with an action oriented Aries Moon - not the traditional "romantic" dinner kind of aspects. Maybe it's about a low-key meal at the local Indian restaurant on the way to see an action flick, or going ice skating, etc.
Feb 20 - Emotional sensitivity permeates today, begging for some reflective alone time.
(Cancer Moon trines Sun and Neptune 7 - 8 am; Moon squares Uranus at 4:00 pm and Neptune conjuncts Pisces Sun at 11:15 pm)
Feb 21: Possibly still feeling out of body after the Sun-Neptune conjunction late last night, we need to take it slow this morning. Thankfully, there's an action oriented influence in the morning to help us on our way.
(Moon trines Mars at 9:45 am)
Feb 23: MERCURY GOES into RETROGRADE
Feb 24 - 26: We are likely to feel like we're spinning, and energetically overwhelmed by the combination of several planets in Pisces coming up against the Virgo Full Moon (exact at 12:30 pm on 25th). We may find ourselves easily irritated and angry, ungrounded, and tired. Rest and refrain from too much mental activity is the key to navigating this combination of aspects.
Feb 24: Moon opposes Venus at 9:00 pm;
Feb 25: Virgo Moon is in a T-square, as it opposes Neptune-Sun in Pisces and squares Jupiter in Gemini, at the same time as the Sun squares Jupiter - taking place from 4 am - 2:30 pm;
Feb 26: Mercury-Mars conjunction in Pisces at 1:00 am, followed by a Moon-opposition to mercury and Mars 9:30 - 10:15 am).
Feb 28: Just when we thought we were recovering from the energies of Full Moon, we find ourselves waking up to that "other worldly" kind of experience. Perhaps we'll find ourselves pulling together the fragments of an amazing dream. On another note, the combination today triggers altruistic thinking and helps us come into a great connection with our heart and spirit.
(Venus conjuncts Neptune in Pisces at 5:45 am)
Lunar Activity
New Moon Feb 9 21 deg Aquarius @ 11:20 pm
Full Moon Feb 21 7 deg Virgo @ 12:26 pm
Note:
Mercury will be in retrograde Feb 23 - Mar 16
