Mill Avenue's New Year's Eve
Free celebration, fireworks ring in 2013

December 31, 2012 - January 1, 2013

 

The Mill Avenue District is the place to be on New Year's Eve. Ring in the New Year with your family and friends as Downtown Tempe fills the last night of 2012 with free entertainment, multiple parties, food and fireworks! For the first time in decades, access to Mill Avenue will be free and open to the public for a celebration you won't soon forget. See all the night's festivities below:

 

Radio Disney's Family Fun Zone Sponsored by Chevrolet

6-9pm | 7th St. & Mill Ave.

Bring the family down to the Family Fun Zone sponsored by Chevrolet. Radio Disney is bringing their Rockin' Road Show filled with music, dancing, and interactive games to entertain crowds of all ages.  Also, revellers can enjoy game trucks, laser tag, and bounce houses for the kids. 

 

Live Music 

9:30pm-midnight | 7th St. & Mill Ave.

After Disney's Rockin' Roadshow wraps up, two of Tempe's up & coming bands will take the stage. S.O.S kicks off at 9:30pm with their party-rock dance music, while Americana folk-rockers Jared & The Mill perform into the early minutes of 2013.

 

Fireworks

9pm - Family Show | 12am - Midnight Show

Fireworks will be launched from "A" Mountain (Hayden Butte) and should be visible throughout the Mill Avenue District.

 

Bars & Clubs

6pm- 2am | Mill Avenue District

Mill Avenue's famous bars and clubs will be offering a variety of 21+ celebratory options throughout the night including live entertainment, DJs, and extended party areas. Bars and clubs will have their own cover charges that evening.

 

Restaurants

The restaurant patios in the Mill Avenue District offer the perfect views of the New Year's Eve Celebrations. Choose from over 60 restaurants and grills located in the Mill Avenue District for food options. New Year's Eve Sixth Street Block Party

7pm- 2am | 6th Street and Mill 

Fat Tuesday, Handlebar & Grill, and Canteen Modern Tequila Bar are joining to bring a huge celebration to Mill Avenue. The event boasts 12 bars, 8 djs, 3 stages, and a midnight ball drop. Rula Bula New Year's Eve Party 

9pm- 2am | 401 S. Mill Avenue  

This famous Irish pub will be celebrating the arrival of 2013 with live entertainment featuring the Jeff Hunt Band, drink specials, party favors and prize giveaways. Admission is $20. Click here for more information.

 

New Year's Eve at The Rooftop 

8pm- 2am | 501 S. Mill Avenue, Suite #301 

The lounge which boasts the "Best views of Mill Avenue" rings in the new year with multiple dj's inside and on the patio, party favors and a complimentary champagne toast at midnight. Admission starts at $5. Click here for more information.

Runs, Walks, and Marathons Start January on the Right Foot   

Three races come to Downtown Tempe this month

 

The winter months are here, and along with the cooler weather, it brings walks, runs, and marathons to the Tempe area. The month of January will have outdoor races for everyone, including a fun run for the kids, and the most colorful race you will ever experience. Get the family ready, prepare to lose that extra weight you gained over the holidays, and come on out during the month of January to participate in one of these 3 races.  

 

Run, Walk and Roll 

The 4th Annual Run, Walk and Roll presented by Arizona Disabled Sports will take place on Saturday, January 5th. There will be a 5k, 10k, 1 mile fitness walk, and a .5 mile kids fun run. People of all ages will flock to Downtown Tempe to participate. All proceeds from the event will go towards Arizona Disabled Sports.

PF Chang's Rock -N- Roll Marathon

The Rock-N-Roll Marathon is rocking its way into town once again on January 20th. A day of running and music, the marathon see's multiple stages set up along the three city course with a headlining stage at the finish line. The half marathon will start at Downtown Tempe on 3rd Street and Mill Avenue at 7:50am, and do a loop through Tempe and Scottsdale.  The full marathon will start in Downtown Phoenix at 7:50am, going through Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Downtown Tempe.  

 

Bike lovers will also have the chance to experience the Rock-N-Roll Marathon in style, with the Bike Tour. The course will feature the entire full marathon course, and will take place prior to the full marathon event on January 20th. The finish line for all courses will be in Tempe at the ASU Sun Devil and Sun Angel stadium.   

 

The fun doesn't stop when the races are over, however. Live entertainment will be held at the finish line after the races, with Arizona's Finish Line Concert featuring pop singer Andy Grammer, who will be  playing from 11:15am-12:15pm. Andy has performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and Good Morning America. Gearing up for a major headlining tour in 2013, this is an act that you will not want to miss.  The concert and Finish Line Festival are free and open to the public.   

 

Whether you are a runner or not, this is an event that will add a bounce to your step and leave you wanting to rock out.

The Color Run    

On January 26th, The Color Run will once again add a splash of color to Downtown Tempe. The 5k course will loop around Tempe Beach Park, creating 3 miles of fun, crazy, and color. The Color Run is designed for runners of all skill levels, bringing people from all over to Downtown Tempe. Each kilometer of the run is designated a color, and as the kilometer is completed, runners are doused with an explosion of color from volunteers, sponsors, and staff. Participants are required to wear white tshirts, and are guaranteed to come out with blue, pink, orange, and yellow all over.

Third Thursday's Bike Night 

Roll around Tempe with a group ride and free concert  

January 17, 2013  

 

Pedal down to the Mill Avenue District this Third Thursday for a night of bikes, lights, and music. Join the Tempe Bicycle Action Group (T.B.A.G), TriSports, and CycleLights for one of multiple free group rides. Dare yourself by joining TriSports's endurance ride, chill out with T.B.A.G with their easygoing group ride, or light up the night with Cyclelight's night ride. Wrap your bike with lights and decorate it for the occasion, it's going to be a spoke-tacular night.

 

This month's free Third Thursday Concert features Arizona indie-rockers Race You There at the Hayden Square Amphitheater. The band has been compared to the Shins and Modest Mouse and has received a decent amount of attention from local press including the College Times. 

 

Whether you're looking for a challenge, just want a relaxing ride with your buds, or just want to listen to some live tunes, Bike Night has you covered.
