Federal Update: UCON Advocates for Federal Water Bill
|
 United Contractors is a leading advocate for water infrastructure investment in California and across the nation. Recently, alongside dozens of stakeholder coalitions, UCON signed onto an industry letter urging the United States Senate to support S. 601, the Water Resources and Development Act (WRDA), which authorizes funding for various water infrastructure projects.
This legislation would be an important step toward providing critical economic benefits to the nation, its' people and our industry.

Revised Off-Road Fleet Calculator; Updated PERP Requirements
|
|
This month CARB has posted two items of note for UCON members. The first is the revised Off-Road Fleet Calculator for Large Fleets (over 5000 HP) for use in planning for the January 1, 2014 compliance date. The second is the notice of updated engine Tier Requirements for Initial PERP Registrations, effective June 30, 2013. Read our CARB Bulletin for more information.

Each year UCON and our members participate in the annual Transportation ConstructionCoalition fly-in/federal lobbying trip. This a great opportunity for individuals to learn about how our industry is funded, what is (and is not) happening in D.C. for our industry, and to meet face-to-face with a number of our Congressional representatives on the issues that matter most. It's also simply a great opportunity to network with hundreds of industry folks from around the country. Join us June 3-5, or send a "rising star" to represent your company and make our industry's voice heard.

Caltrans Requests Industry Review
|
|
Caltrans has requested industry review regarding the authorization of Caltrans to use CM/GC contracting method on up to six transportation projects. Caltrans is working on contractor language to implement CM/CG, which can be found here. These documents are still in draft form and were developed by the Department using best management practices adopted by other State Departments of Transportation.

Caltrans is interested in obtaining your input on the proposed document templates. Please review and submit any comments to CMGC@dot.ca.gov by May 3, 2013.

Transition to E-Bidding Summer 2013
|
 United Contractors has been a leader in the effort to implement electronic bidding at Caltrans. We are pleased to announce that, beginning this summer, Caltrans will be transitioning to an electronic bidding process. We will keep you posted as Caltrans gets closer to an official date. Special thanks to the UCON Caltrans Committee for their input and advocacy to implement the e-bid system.
