CHH signs on to letter in support of Mayor Murray's HALA deal
Seattle Met

Dear friends,

When Mayor Murray declared a state of emergency on the homeless crisis in Seattle he said, "Cities cannot do this alone. Addressing homelessness must be a national priority with a federal response." This is a great move that we applaud - in addition to the "grand bargain" that the Mayor and City Council are acting on now to help get more affordable housing built in our growing city.

Every day I walk around Capitol Hill and am saddened by the number of people living on the street, in parks and in doorways. We should be outraged that so many people in our community are living without a home or even a roof.

We at Capitol Hill Housing know that the solution to this crisis is expensive. Significant financial investment will be needed to provide shelter and services - and support must come from the federal government as well as local sources. But the solution takes more than just dollars - we also need to be creative. It takes actions like freeing up unoccupied land for housing and prioritizing permitting for affordable housing projects. It takes all of us.

Thank you for your support of this important work.

NEAR: Navigating Employment with Assistance and Resources

This new program supports CHH residents' job and career goals with one-on-one mentorship from professionals in the Seattle community.

Volunteer mentors review resident interests, skills, work history and employment goals. Residents develop their interests, learn what opportunities are available, polish their resume building skills, prepare for interviews, and gain assistance in applying for opportunities. Mentors provide personalized and encouraging guidance throughout the process.

If you are interested in volunteering as a mentor, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@capitolhillhousing.org.
