Theatre Network has a 40-year history of serving Edmonton theatre goers and offers a three-show mainstage season with a focus on contemporary world theatre. TN also programs original commissioned works, Nextfest, and the Roxy Performance Series. Theatre Network is the owner and operator of the Roxy theatre which was destroyed by fire in January of 2015. Currently the company is working towards rebuilding the Roxy but has taken up temporary residence in the newly named Roxy on Gateway.
 
The Business Manager/General Manager works with and reports to Theatre Network's Artistic Director.  Primary responsibilities include administration; event planning; fundraising and fund development; facility management and operations. personality and development of the festival; spearheading new work and commissions and
overseeing their development; pro-actively developing partnerships with local, national and
international arts organizations and artists; catalysing active participation in and knowledge of
the local arts community; developing fresh thinking for the festival's education, community,
outreach and volunteer programs; oversight of curators in music, visual arts, literature and public programs; management and oversight of the Festival program and commissioning budget, and conducting staff performance reviews for the festival. Through this mandate, the new AD will help lead the Luminato festival forward into its second decade, working in close partnership with the CEO to grow its artistic vision, its scope and scale, its distinctive global reputation, and its local audience impact. The Stratford Festival is the leading classical theatre in North America. Founded in 1953, the Festival presents a seven-month season of 12 to 16 plays in four theatres, featuring the works of Shakespeare and other great classical writers, as well as the best in musical theatre and contemporary drama. It welcomes more than 500,000 visitors each year between the months of April and November.
 
Reporting to the Production Stage Managers, you will provide organizational and administration support to the stage management offices. Strong organizational and exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Formal training in theatre production together with stage management experience is necessary. Proficiency in Word and Excel are required. These are seasonal positions, contracted for between three and eight months, depending upon which stage management office the production assistant supports.

Cultural Pluralism in the Arts Movement Ontario (CPAMO), Ontario
The focus of these workshops will be to engage Indigenous, ethno-racial/culturally diverse, and other marginalized arts organizations and artists in learning how to develop collaborative practices to support their artistic growth and development. To do this, the workshops will focus on collaborative work involving:
 
-Artist-to-Artist: Aluna Theatre PanAmerican Routes; and COBA/KasheDance;
-Working with Presenters: Flato Markham Theatre; Oakville Centre for the Arts;
-Learning Circle: CPAMO Executive Director.

To be eligible for grant funding you must be a professional artist and Theatre Ontario follows the Ontario Arts Council's definition of a professional artist: The OAC defines a professional artist as someone who has developed skills through training or practice, is recognized by artists working in the same artistic tradition, has a history of public presentation or publication, and seeks payment for her or his work and actively practises his or her art. Nominations for the Canada Council's John Hirsch Prize

The John Hirsch Prize was created in 1995 to recognize new and developing theatre directors who have demonstrated great potential for future excellence and exciting artistic vision. Two $6,000 prizes are awarded every two years, one for each of the Anglophone and Francophone theatre communities. Nominees must have no more than 10 years of experience as a professional theatre director. They must also be Canadian citizens or have permanent resident status, as defined by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. They do not need to be living in Canada. Read more

The Vancouver Fringe Festival and Playwrights Theatre Centre are calling for applications for the fourth year of the Fringe New Play Prize. The winning project will receive dramaturgical support from PTC and a free guaranteed spot in the Mainstage Category at the 2016 Vancouver Fringe Festival. Urjo Kareda Residency Grant for an Emerging Theatre Artist

The Urjo Kareda Residency Grant supports the training and artistic residency of an exceptional emerging theatre artist each season at Tarragon Theatre. The successful applicant will spend twenty weeks at Tarragon Theatre pursuing their own training and artistic goals by working in collaboration with professional artists in their chosen field(s) of interest. The grant is valued at $15,000 and made possible by an annual donation from The Youssef-Warren Foundation. Read more

Call for New Board Members

Toronto City Council recently voted to merge operations of the Hummingbird (Sony) Centre for the Performing Arts, the St. Lawrence Centre for the Performing Arts, and the Toronto Centre for the Arts together under one newly formed entity - Civic Theatres Toronto. In the short term, each theatre board has been dissolved and the organization is being run by an interim board of directors consisting of five City Councillors. Outreach is ongoing to recruit and appoint eight public board members by early November. Public members of the Board should collectively have significant experience in one or more of the following qualifications:

-current or past leadership role in the performing arts sector or another cultural sector
-community leadership and partnerships
-marketing and sponsorship
-financial management and business strategy
-labour relations
-In addition, a youthful perspective, defined as an individual in the 18-30 age range, is a desirable qualification for at least one public member. Read more
