President's Message

By Eric Coates

President, PACT

A few months ago I was a guest at a decidedly hipster event at the Mercury Lounge in Ottawa's Byward Market.  The Brad McNeil  is an eponymous talk show, held in the decayed splendor of the Mercury's second floor venue, which thrives on a Kubrick-meets-Vampire Weekend aesthetic. The interesting aspect of this talk show is that it is performed solely for those in attendance. There is no online presence, nor is it recorded or broadcast. I was invited to talk about my new job at GCTC and about the newcomer's perspective of Ottawa. Thanks to the co-host who had brought his mother, I was not the only person over thirty in attendance, nonetheless I felt conspicuous.

Daffodils (this article is for Brian Quirt)

By Lucy White

Executive Director

(I've learned a few tricks of the trade from Eric Coates since he became PACT's President. The only one I can share with you is to start with a personal story....)

Last week, while trying to admire my spring garden, I realized that I had never got around to planting bulbs near my kitchen window. Every spring I make a mental note to put something bright and cheerful right where I'll see it every morning. And, every fall I forget.

Hitting the Links

By Boomer Stacey

Spring is a great time of year...days feel longer as we get more and more daylight every day; trees are budding, bulbs blooming and grass greening; Canadian hockey teams are getting the crap kicked out of them in the Stanley Cup Playoffs; conference fever is in the air along with nasty, nasty pollen; and golfers are cleaning off their clubs (I was going to say balls but thought that might be a tad bit offside) in anticipation of hitting the links.

Member Profile - Rumble Productions

Edited by Meg Shannon
Membership and Communications Associate

Founded in 1990, Rumble Productions has devoted itself to the Vancouver community and its artists for 28 years. Norman Armour and Chris Gerrard-Pinker created the company to focus on multi-disciplinary work and since then the company has been led by Armour, Craig Hall, and now Stephen Drover, who plans to open new doors for Rumble during his tenure. Over the years Rumble has proven itself an innovative company, developing new work, fostering artists and fledgling companies while always upholding its commitment to artistic excellence.

PACT invited Rumble's brand new Managing Producer, Becky Low, to tell us more about the company, its successes and challenges, and how it fits into the busy Vancouver theatre scene.
