A Note from Jay
Save These Dates!

After our epic winter of cold and snow, we are ready for a busy summer season and some great special events. We hope you are too, and invite you join us for one or more of the several gatherings happening in the coming months to support and celebrate the work of the CDP.

Nasturtium from
Winslow's Tavern Garden
Our summer Kick-Off Celebration is on Tuesday, June 2nd at Winslow's Tavern in Wellfleet. Join us from 5:30 to 7:00 PM for an evening of all things local. Mingle with friends as you enjoy a creative menu of delectable bites with local ingredients, created by Chefs Phillip Hunt & J'aime Sparrow. And win raffle items from Lower Cape businesses. We're bringing together some of the business owners we've had the opportunity to work with, with the people who support our work to strengthen community on the Lower Cape. Tickets are $25.00 and we expect this event to sell out, so click here to reserve your spot.

 Fireworks

There is no better place to watch Provincetown's July 4th Fireworks than from the lawn at Land's End Inn.  So make plans to attend our 3rd annual July 4th event.  Drinks and hors d'oeuvres start at 7:00 PM. Come and enjoy the beautiful grounds of Land's End Inn far above the Commercial Street crowds.  Registration details.

July 13-19th marks the 23rd Bob Murray Housing with Love Walk. The Walk brings together advocates for affordable housing on Cape Cod to walk from Provincetown to Falmouth--raising awareness and funds for a dozen housing agencies on the Cape. CDP Staff, Board Members and supporters will be walking from Provincetown to Harwich on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday--July 13th-15th.  If you'd like to join us for a morning, an afternoon or all three days, contact Moira. We would be delighted to have you on our team, and help you secure pledges to support the important housing programs at the CDP.

Finally, on Wednesday, August 26th we will again return to Halcyon Farm in Brewster to raise funds in support of our work with local farmers and food producers.  Details for this evening are still in the works.  But you can be sure we will let you know when tickets are available.

All these events are great fun and provide an opportunity to support the work of the CDP.  I look forward to seeing you this summer!

As always thank YOU for your interest and support.

Safe, Stable & Affordable Housing
Call for General Contractors

Art of Construction
General contractors are an integral piece of the puzzle for the success of our Housing Rehabilitation Program. Over the many years we have managed the program, $7.6 million has been injected into the local economy via contracts with local builders. Right now we're looking to for licensed contractors to bid on moderate rehab projects in Dennis, Harwich, Wellfleet, Truro and Provincetown. Projects range from $25,000-$35,000 and work includes--Roofing, Siding, Windows, Doors, Boilers, Electrical, Plumbing and more.  RRP license is a must--Moderate Risk de-leading a plus.  If you or someone you know is interested, please contact the CDP's Housing Rehab Program Manager, Jean Stanley at (508) 240-7873 x14 or jean@capecdp.org.

Strong Local Businesses
Loan Program Expands to Meet Need scallop boats

For the third year we're pleased to offer loans to support local ground fishermen through funding from the MA Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF). For a second year we've successfully advocated to expand the uses for these funds to meet the needs of fishermen in an ever-changing industry. Funds were initially limited to leasing fishing quota. CDP Business & Credit Program staff have worked with representatives at the MA DMF and the National Marine Fisheries Service to allow qualified groundfishermen to use the funds to maintain or expand their businesses. "Through our work with fishermen via the Cape Cod Fisheries Trust we're hearing first-hand the challenges of local groundfishermen," said Business & Credit Program Manager, Sheila Hoogeboom. "Fishermen are investing in their boats to travel father from shore. They are also diversifying into other fisheries to strengthen their businesses. Expanding the scope and uses of this loan fund will allow more groundfishermen to benefit from the funds."  Another important aspect of this program is the quarterly meetings required of loan recipients. During these meetings, borrowers have an opportunity to check-in on their business goals and receive strategic advice. For more information, please contact Sheila at sheila@capecdp.org

A Sustainable Future
Protecting Our Natural Environment

Passionate, not preachy" is how Tracey Barry Hunt describes her commitment to protecting the natural environment of the Outer Cape, and that passion flows strongly through the restaurant she owns and manages with her husband Phillip Hunt. At that restaurant, Winslow's Tavern in Wellfleet, they were already engaged in many environmentally sustainable business practices prior to working with the CDP on their Cape & Islands Green verification. According to Tracey, "Recycling has been a huge component of our business. We're constantly looking for ways to re-use". They also engage in some composting and oyster shell recycling. The compost is used in the two garden plots that produce herbs, greens and other produce for the restaurant. And their commitment translates as part of the culture of the restaurant where they challenge their staff to think green and often get great ideas in return. Keep Reading...
