A Note from Jay
Investing in Community

Happy April 15th--Tax Day--did you end up writing a check to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts? How would you like to write a smaller check next April, and invest in the work of the Community Development Partnership?

This past year, 60 donors to the CDP utilized the Community Investment Tax Credit (CITC) to make a charitable investment of $1,000 or more in the work of the CDP. They received a state tax credit worth 50% of their contribution. And, because the CITC is a refundable tax credit, donors with no tax liability (i.e. out of state donors, family foundations) received a check from the Commonwealth instead of a tax bill.

These generous "Community Investors" contributed $160,000 to the CDP thanks to the $80,000 in tax credits we had available in 2014. The good news is that in 2015 we have $100,000 in tax credits, which will enable us to leverage $200,000 to support our work providing safe, stable & affordable housing, building strong local businesses and creating a sustainable future for the Lower Cape. At our April 1st Annual Meeting, we released a new video that describes the work our donors support through the stories of the people we serve. You can view it by clicking below.

Community Development Partnership

I hope you will be inspired to contribute and benefit from the Community Investment Tax Credit. Last year, all of our credits were allocated by December 1st. So if you are interested in using the CITC, be in touch with us soon.

As always thank YOU for your interest and support.

Safe, Stable & Affordable Housing
Longtime Resident Joins CDP Board

At our recent Annual Meeting new members were elected to our Board of Directors. One of those new Board Members, Angelina Bologna, is one of the original residents of Thankful Chases Pathways. Thankful Chases Pathway is our 12 unit Platinum LEED certified affordable housing development in Harwich. Angelina brings an important perspective to the Board about the needs of people we serve. Here's a little background.

Longtime Harwich resident Angelina Bologna wasn't expecting much when she attended an information session and applied to a housing lottery for the new Thankful Chases Pathway housing complex in Harwich. She and her young daughter had been living with her parents for 8 years. Her ongoing search to find an affordable place for them to live was beginning to seem hopeless. Thankful Chases Pathway appealed to her due to its location and new construction. Yet she figured with so many applicants, what were her chances?

Strong Local Businesses
Support from the State

Over the past few months we've been able to offer a new opportunity for business owners we work with through our Business & Credit Programs, adding greater value to our relationships and to their businesses. With funding from the Massachusetts Growth Capital Corporation, eligible business owners have been able to apply for and access matching funds for customized consulting services for their businesses. Website design, marketing specialists, product packaging, signage and financial assessments are some of the ways the funds are being used. The grant provides a 75% match, and up to $5,000 per business owner. The CDP's Director of Business & Credit Programs, Sheila Hoogeboom, said, "The services funded through this matching grant are those that the business owners we work with desperately need, but cannot afford. This program is allowing them to take their business to the next level without huge hardship to the business. And, it is supporting the local business owners who are providing the services. It's a win-win." So far over $20,000 has been injected into the local economy as a result of this program. For more information, contact Sheila at (508) 2407-873 x13 or sheila@capecdp.org

A Sustainable Future
Market Season in Review

It's hard to believe the first season of the Orleans Winter Farmers' Market will conclude this Saturday, April 18th. And what a great season it has been! We had over 20 vendors at each Market. We offered 10 different demonstrations on topics related to local agriculture and wellness. We were entertained by 10 unique local musical groups. Weekly Market attendance averaged just under 300 people. To date, Market vendors have collectively brought in $35,000 in revenue. We have close to 400 new "likes" on Facebook. And, we received lots of great feedback from both Market goers and vendors for next year.

We would be remiss, in this piece, not to thank the many people who made this Market possible this year, including:

It truly takes a community and we have a great one! The Market will return in December 2015. In the meantime, check out all of the AMAZING summer markets--many opening soon. Click here for a list provided by our friends at Buy Fresh Buy Local Cape Cod.
