A Note from Jay
Supportive Small Business Community
Support for our organization comes in many different forms, but one of our most significant sources is our local small business community. You'll notice in this e-newsletter each month the various ways local companies partner with us, be it through volunteer time, sponsorships, grants, inkind donations, contributions, or expertise. Just last week for instance, Agway of Cape Cod partnered with us to sponsor a Forum to educate local farmers on ways to use their limited land resources with the most efficiency. And, at an event this Thursday local business owner Teresa Parker of Spanish Journeys has committed to donating 10% of upcoming trip proceeds to thank us for the help our business workshops gave her to boost the launch of her Wellfleet-based travel company (Read more here). And this is just in the course of one week. We are so fortunate to live in a place where local businesses invest so much to strengthen our community and we can't thank them enough. You can view a complete list of our local business supporters in our last Annual Report here.As always, thank YOU for your support and interest. Jay

Local businessman, Raymond Gentles & CDP Executive Director, Jay Coburn with Raymond's new company truck, financed with a CDP Micro Loan
|
Twenty years ago we began providing Micro Loans to small businesses on the Lower Cape. Two decades and over $2.3 million in loans later, the program is still very active. Originating with a grant from the MA Department of Housing and Community Development, the revolving loan fund has allowed151 business owners to start-up or grow their small businesses. Through recent loans the program has financed a truck for business use (pictured), a machine for chocolate production, irrigation equipment for a farm, additional inventory for a retail store, and boat repairs. Real Return Initiative Realizing Return
 | | Solar Installation at Little Homesteads, Harwich |
We're pleased to report that our Real Return Initiative is doing just that, realizing a return. The combined SREC revenue and Nstar credits as a result of the solar portion of the green initiative are now at $18,210 (since May 2013). The revenue and credits are generated from the 250 solar panels installed at five of our properties. Additionally, residents in our affordable rental homes are realizing savings as a result of the energy efficiency upgrades made during the Real Return. At our Robert Lane property in Harwich, for example, where a substantial number of upgrades were made, residents are seeing as much as a 28% reduction in heating bills per month.
