Thank You!

We can't think of a better way to start off the new year than by letting you know that we not only reached -but exceeded - our 2013 year-end campaign goal!

We set an ambitious target for this campaign - raise $40,000 by December 31st.

We are thrilled to say that you and your fellow supporters answered the call - by contributing a total of $48,434!

Your generosity will fuel our work to continue to create a stronger Lower Cape community.

With sincere gratitude,

CDP Board of Directors and Staff

New Year, New Look
A Note from Jay

As we enter Jay Coburn_1.9.13 the new year, we decided it was time to give our monthly e-newsletter a fresh look and feel.  Don't worry, we'll still bring you the content you've come to expect  - about our work and most importantly the people affected by it.  Now each month, however, you'll notice these stories highlighted by the various areas the CDP affects, including Affordable Housing, Business Development and Sustainability.  And while each of these is focused on a distinct issue, they are also highly inter-related, which our stories will tell.  Businesses cannot take root and flourish without a diverse pool of potential employees and consumers.  Those workers and consumers cannot reside locally without access to affordable housing and decent-paying jobs.  Finally, energy conservation, including a greater reliance on renewable resources, creates economic advantages for individuals, families and businesses and promotes the long-term health of the physical environment.  And, of course, we'll list our upcoming events and radio shows.  So, let us know what you think.

Enjoy,
Jay - short

Expanded Revolving Loan Fund Allows
Flexibility for Local Ground Fishermen

We are pleased to be able to offer local ground fishermen the opportunity to access flexible capital to repair vessels, purchase new gear, lease ground fish quota and refinance fisheries-related debt.  In conjunction with the MA Department of Fish & Game and its Division of Marine Fisheries we are one of the organizations in the state designated to deploy a $250,000 Revolving Loan Fund .

"Fishermen on the Lower Cape have had to adapt to so many changes in their businesses over the past several years," said CDP Executive Director, Jay Coburn.  "In addition to declining stocks, getting access to financing has been one of the greatest challenges.  We are pleased to make this loan fund available and to be able to provide the technical assistance and support our local fishermen need to succeed."  Read More

Making the Move to a Greener Business

Local moving company, Magnum Moving & Storage decided it was time to make their business 'greener' and did so by becoming Cape & Islands Green verified in December 2013.

According to Magnum Moving &  Storage Owner/CEO, Steve Magliano, "Magnum has been recycling cardboard and plastics generated by our business for many years.  While receiving our green verification, our eyes were opened to the additional simple day to day practices of additional recycling methods. For instance, we installed 2 paper only bins.  To our amazement, we are recycling an additional 40 to 50 pounds per week of discarded office paper.  I would encourage all of my fellow business owners on the Cape to seek their green verification. "
