A New Home for Wellfleet Native
Melissa Shantz has added an affordable rental home to the Lower Cape with support from the partnership between HECH and the CDP. With funding from the Housing Rehabilitation Loan Program, Melissa was able to complete the work she had started on her own to create this affordable year-round accessory dwelling in Wellfleet.

According to Melissa, "the program provided the boost I needed to get it done." The project involved putting in a kitchen, bathroom and some finish interior work. Melissa has lived in Wellfleet for 35 years and feels strongly that there needs to be more opportunities for people who grew up here to be able to afford to stay here

and remain connected with their community networks. Well she is certainly helping one person to do just that as a tenant will be moving into the brand new home within the month. According to Melissa, this person was born and raised in Wellfleet, owns a business in Wellfleet and is dedicated to the town. Melissa says, "Bravo to the WHOLE team" for sharing a common vision and getting it done!

Another Local Business Goes Green
Located in the historic district of the beautiful bayside town of Brewster, the Candleberry Inn has been welcoming visitors for over 200 years. Today, they are leading the way locally in eco-tourism. The Inn became Cape and Islands Green verified by improving energy efficiency, increasing recycling and shopping locally. In doing so they caught the attention and were featured in a pilot television series promoting eco-tourism. Congratulations to them for their commitment to preserve this beautiful place for at least another 200 years! You can read more about them here.

Guess Who's Walking
As you may know we're participating in the 21st Annual Bob Murray Housing with Love Walk in July. Today we're excited to announce that we're recognizing Truro Police Chief Kyle Takakjian as a celebrity walker! Chief Takakjian has long been an advocate for affordable housing and served as Board President of Highland Affordable Housing (HAH) in the last of his five years. During his tenure with the Housing Agency, they were able to bring about a number of affordable home opportunities in Truro. He also participated in the Walk with HAH a couple of years ago. When talking about his participation in the Walk this year, the Chief commented that "It (the Walk) raises awareness of the need for affordable homes. All are affected by it, no matter your social or economic status and we all have to be concerned and work together toward a collective solution." We couldn't be more pleased that he'll be joining us. If you'd like to support Chief Takakjian or any CDP Walkers, please click here. The 104-mile, seven-day walk spanning all 15 Cape Cod towns raises money for a variety of housing support organizations and creates awareness about critical housing issues on the Cape, including homelessness, foreclosures and affordability.

A Note from Jay

Dear Friends:
As we wind down our fiscal year and gear up for our 22nd year of service to the Lower Cape, I'm so thankful for the response we have received from the community to our most recent fundraising appeal. A generous anonymous donor has pledged to match contributions made before June 30th dollar for dollar up to $5,000. If you haven't given already, I hope you will support the CDP and help us meet this challenge. You can make a contribution online by clicking here. And you can sign up to make a monthly gift, charged automatically to your credit card!
We'll be starting July off with a bang - both literally and figuratively. On Thursday, July 4th, The Land's End Inn will hold a fundraising reception for the benefit of the CDP to watch the fireworks in Provincetown. The historic and exquisite Inn is one of the best vantage points to watch the spectacular display! Music by Peter Donnelly, along with drinks and hors d'oeuvres will begin at 7pm with the fireworks show starting just after dark. Tickets to the event start at $50 per person. Tickets are limited to 100 people and may be purchased by clicking here. Hope to see you there and thanks to the Lands End Inn for their support of the CDP!
