What an Adventure it has been in the last month as we returned all of the artwork all across the south from our two BIG shows in Louisiana! We then drove back to Cape Cod via Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, St. Louis & Columbus where we stopped to visit family, friends & collectors all along the way. We have been working really hard planning the next BIG thing for 2015! We had a very Special visit in Albuquerque New Mexico with Artist Andrea Lannin - Rockmore's girlfriend from 1975-1978 in New York & New Orleans. Andrea is undergoing "successful therapy for two cancers" and is doing outstanding. Lots of love and healing we are all sending her way! L to R - 76 Andrea by Rockmore, 77 Andrea w Rockmore, 2008, 2014! Gladys Rockmore Davis, Noel Rockmore's famous mother, is BACK in the Artworld with two Big $1800 sales at National Auctions - a Ballet work from Life and an Ad from Johnson & Johnson! Gladys was also recently featured in a flashback for the Dallas Museum of Art as well. In 1945 the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts was the 7th venue for the 150-painting traveling exhibition Portrait of America, sponsored by "Artists for Victory" and the Pepsi-Cola Company. The museum invited Dallasites (see B&W image) to vote for their favorite work in the exhibition. The winner of the vote was Gladys Rockmore Davis's Noel with Violin (right); she was awarded $100 by the manager of the local Pepsi-Cola Company bottling plant. Noel Rockmore images a hit with Shia (Islam). We have noticed since the Noel Rockmore AP article of 2012 that the Middle East loves his images and will often put them in as supplement for their articles that are about art like this one with 9 Giant Rockmores. The Shia or the Shiites represent the second largest denomination of Islam. There are 1.62 billion Muslims around the world, and it is estimated that the Shia are 10-20% (160-320 Million people).
On another note, many of Noel Rockmore's friends and subjects are featured in this article "Jews in Jazz (Part 1)" in the recent Crescent City Jewish News. Rockmore had such close relationships with the people in the second half of the article that the case could easily be made that they were his extended New Orleans Jewish family. Although Rockmore and his mother were born Jewish, they rarely mentioned it because according to Jewish friend & composer, David Amram, "at the time, they just did not think it would be beneficial to their art careers."
