Signs and Symbols of Advent
The days are short this month but full of anticipation and energy as we wait in hope for the birth of Christ. And presents. It sure is hard to keep kids from getting excited about the presents. It doesn't help that retail stores started bombarding us with Christmas back in September, or earlier. In the Church year, Advent is our new beginning and a welcome opportunity to center ourselves amid the hubbub. The familiar decorations that we see around us can actually help us teach kids about the coming of Christ at Christmas. Stockings, lights, stars, wrapped packages, candles, bells, candy canes, holly, wreaths, poinsettias -- all of these things have Christian meaning. Use our activities to learn more and may you have a blessed Advent journey!
