One of the central messages of the Catholic faith is the inherent dignity of life. We value all life -- from womb to tomb -- and believe that every person has worth because each of us was created in the image and likeness of God. This month, spend some time reflecting on how your parish welcomes the stranger, works to preserve the dignity of the elderly, celebrates children and families and strives to protect the unborn. Life is a gift from God and we are eternally grateful!

Loving God,
The Psalmist reminds us that
"the heavens are telling the glory of God;
and the earth proclaims God's handiwork."
How awesome is your gift of life to us,
the mystery of our holiness and who we are called to be,
as your creatures in the web of life.
Call us more and more to be aware of our connections
and the sacredness of all of your creation.
Thank you, God, for the gift of life.
Amen.

"And sensitive to the reality of families being themselves in public. Sometimes, we might see a family struggling with a toddler or a preschooler at Mass or at the grocery. I never allow my children to criticize, nor do they hear criticism from me."

Pro-life ... to the very end
By Mariann Hughes
After physician-assisted suicide laws failed to gain traction in the 1990s, states across the country again are proposing -- and passing -- legislation on the matter, all in the name of a patient's right to choose. In this special In Focus from OSV Newsweekly, we look at 'death with dignity' from a Catholic perspective.
