"To be a Christian is to be an evangelizer," writes internationally-known speaker and teacher Dr. Scott Hahn. "The 'New Evangelization' is simply a reminder of what has always been true."
In his new book, Evangelizing Catholics: A Mission Manual for the New Evangelization, Scott Hahn takes what sounds like a complicated topic and breaks it down for the everyday Catholic. "The purpose of this book," he says, "is to flesh out that mission-what it is, how we carry it out, and what it calls us to proclaim."
Here's an excerpt from Evangelizing Catholics:
Think of it this way: When we see a good movie or hear a great new band, the first thing most of us do afterwards is share it with others. We tell them they've just got to go see this film or listen to this group. If we feel that way about a movie, shouldn't we feel all the more so about the God who became man, died on the cross, and rose again, all so that we could live in eternal happiness with him?
The answer is, of course we should. A beggar, upon discovering a ready source of bread, doesn't keep it to himself. He goes and tells all the other beggars he knows so that they can partake in the bread too. Just the same, a true understanding of the gift we have in our Catholic faith should send us to the rooftops, shouting with joy and gratitude the words of the psalmist: "Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what he has done for me" (66:16). -- From Chapter 3: The New Evangelization: A "Catholic Thing"
