Greetings!
Isn't it interesting the ways in which The Universe delivers gifts to us? Sometimes those gifts come in the form of a major life struggle, while other times it's comes through the manifestation of our dreams. I have had both, and I am grateful for both. And I oftentimes struggle with graciously accepting both. Through my decade-long quest to find peace and well-being through a thoughtful exploration of my Divinity, I have gotten pretty good at finding the gifts in the gunk that life throws my way and believe strongly that everything, absolutely everything, that happens in our lives contains a juicy gift. Through first-hand experience, I have discovered the blessings nestled in financial upheaval, emotional breakthroughs disguised as breakdowns, and even the untimely passing of a loved one. I guess I am now ready to learn some other things. Spirit has begun to give me gifts in pretty, sparkly new packages. Like TEDTalks. In eleven days, my dance hoop and I will grace the stage of the Historic Asolo Theatre to deliver "The Hoop Revolution: How Joyful Movement Will Transform the World" at TEDxSarasota. As a professional speaker, delivering a TEDTalk is the pinnacle of my career to date. On 12/12/12, I will deliver a 12 minute performance that could very well change the course of my life. (Or not. I am also learning about detaching from outcomes.) Here are a few pearls of wisdom I have already received as I hoopdance toward those three magic letters of T-E-D:
- Living in the moment is the key to managing anxiety and stress. By being present to the gifts that are available to me NOW, I don't need to worry about what will or won't happen on 12/12/12 or afterward. Yes, it's tempting to go down the path of imagining the invitations to Oprah's house party or Ellen's barbeque, but those things are distractions to what is really important -- helping people wake up to their Magnificence today. - Self-care is of paramount importance if I want to realize my mission as HoopWoman. Believe me, this ol' bod gets tired running from here to there and back again, and if I don't do my yoga practice and hoopdance on a daily basis, I'm pretty much worthless. I no longer see it as self-indulgent; I see it as a selfless act that helps me to serve more people. - Leaning into my community (family, close friends, spiritual family, and our growing MojoNation) helps me when the fear, uncertainty, doubt and anxiety take over. When I feel under the wave of my own smallness, I proactively ask for help. When I reach out, I'm not looking for anyone to give me "the answer" or blow sunshine up my rear about how great I am. I am simply asking for their help in holding me in the utmost possibility when I have forgotten it myself. I can feel it when my community responds, and it instantly puts me back into my power. Leaning into community is the equivalent of cosmic jumper cables -- it gives us just the juice we need to get us restarted again. When The Universe is delivering gifts to you in all of its forms, are you living in the moment, taking care of yourself, and leaning into your community? If not, can you see how it is taking a toll on you physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually? I invite you to use this time of transformation to adopt some new habits. Together we can celebrate the end of the world as we know it and move into a new realm of possibility. We can celebrate the end of living in fear, lack, and disconnection. Through these solid practices, we can remember our True Essence that will bring us back to joy each and every time. As always, thank you from the bottom of my most grateful heart for your ongoing support, and I hope that you ride out of 2012 and into 2013 with power, grace and contentment. We have so much for which to be grateful! Let's continue the conversation through Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, blog, and email. Until next time, Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Joyful Solstice, Happy Kwanzaa, Merry Festivus! In joy, Theresa
