At the July meeting, State Board Nominating Committee Members Ernest Lepore, Andrew Mulvihill and Peter Simon will recommend a slate of officers for the 2016-2017 year.

Commissioner's Report
New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education 

A new Holocaust Commission Curriculum will be released in the near future.

A Name Change Request for the Passaic County Educational Services Commission was Approved. 

As Part of Teacher Appreciation Week, the State Board Viewed a Video with Opening Remarks from New Jersey Teacher of the Year Chelsea Collins.

Adoption Resolution
Revised English Language Arts and Mathematics Standards

The State Board adopted the revised English Language Arts and Mathematics Standards pursuant to N.J.A.C. 6A:8-2.1(a)5. Also, the Board approved renaming all preschool through grade 12 Standards the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.

Second Discussion
Programs to Support Student Development

NJDOE, at the State Board's April 2016 meeting, proposed amendments to N.J.A.C. 6A:16, Programs to Support Student Development, to clarify existing rules implementing the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act (ABR) (P.L. 2010, c. 122) and in response to recommendations proposed by the Anti-Bullying Task Force.

In addition, NJDOE has proposed to amend N.J.A.C. 6A:16-1.2, Scope; N.J.A.C. 6A:16-1.3, Definitions; N.J.A.C. 6A:16-7.7, Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying. NJDOE has also proposed new N.J.A.C. 6A:16-7.8, Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying in approved private schools for students with disabilities (PSSDs). As a result of new N.J.A.C. 6A:16-7.8, current N.J.A.C. 6A:16-7.8 will be recodified as N.J.A.C. 6A:16-7.9.

Educator Effectiveness

Following an AchieveNJ presentation by NJDOE Deputy Commissioner/Chief Talent and Performance Officer Peter Shulman, the State Board discussed NJDOE's proposed amendments pertaining to educator evaluation at N.J.A.C. 6A: 9C Professional Development and N.J.A.C. 6A:10, Educator Effectiveness. The proposed amendments and new rules, which are based on advice and input from teachers, support staff, and school and school district leaders, are intended to better align educators' individual professional development plans (PDPs) to the various evaluation procedures set forth in N.J.A.C. 6A:10. 

Application to Stay
March 2, 2016 Decision by the State Board of Education   

The New Jersey State Board of Education denied the revised request to stay its decision to grant the Middlesex Regional Educational Services Commission's application to change its name to The Educational Services Commission of New Jersey.
