20th Annual

Saddle Up! For SIRE Ride-a-thon
and
Family Carnival

This year's Saddle Up! for SIRE Ride-a-thon raised a record breaking $125,000. We had 40 client riders and over 100 trail riders. SIRE rider Shelby Day earned the title of Trail Boss by raising more than $9,800. First time Ride-a-thon participant Marie Tanagho raised more than $900 and was awarded the top trail rider fundraiser award. Jill Butler from the Richmond/Ft. Bend site raised more than $3,700 and was the top money-raising volunteer.
Trail Boss Shelby Day
A new addition to the Ride-a-thon this year was the Carnival and Petting Zoo which were run by the National Charity League chapters from Katy and Cypress and the Houston Junior League. Jeff Rister's Texas Country Cookers served up a wonderful BBQ lunch and entertainment was provided by the Will Carter Band. The charming western town creations and activities which riders enjoyed on the SIRE rider trail were made by Spring volunteers Ladana Igler and Anna Mary Thomas.
Many thanks to David and Faye Reznicek and 7IL Trails for generously hosting Ride-a-thon for the 12th year. And a HUGE thank you to the many volunteers who donated their time and made this all possible!

Spring Barn Bits
|
October was a month for visitors at our Spring site! On Wednesday, Oct. 3rd the South Montgomery County YMCA brought a group of twenty to SIRE to spend the morning riding and learning about horses. They finished up their trip with lunch and photos with Bud.
YMCA Visitors with Bud
We had a second group of visitors on Tuesday, Oct. 23rd. A group of employees from ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) came out to learn about the SIRE program. The visit was arranged by Hockley volunteer and ABS employee Barbara Bailey. Each year ABS conducts "agency tours" and visits programs such as SIRE. They spent the morning watching classes and visiting with staff, parents and volunteers.
