Greetings!
Have you sent your children off on the school bus? Been stuck behind a bus on your morning commute? Those yellow buses are such a visible part of the school day. One not so visible part is school lunch.
Annually, more than 31 million children nationwide eat a school lunch, served five days a week, 180 days a year. If school lunch can be produced and consumed sustainably, taste great, and support the local community, it is a win-win for everyone.
This fall, Congress will be debating the Child Nutrition Act, which supports access to healthy food and food education for all children. As Vermont FEED partners, both Shelburne Farms and NOFA-VT are helping to raise awareness of this important legislation. Check out our blog post on how Farm to School supports school nutrition standards.
Here's to a happy and healthy school year!

Hosting Chef Boot Camp
We were so excited to host the James Beard Foundation's 8th Boot Camp for chefs, September 13-15! Chefs from around the country honed their policy and advocacy (not just knife!) skills to effectively champion food-system causes. In sync with our education mission, this boot camp focused on childhood nutrition. Follow the tweets!

More VT Fruits & Veggies
As part of our VT FEED project with NOFA-VT, we'll be researching how schools can be a stronger market for Vermont fruits and vegetables. The work will offer tools and training to school food staff, teachers, and farmers to promote using Vermont produce as part of USDA's Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. More.

Words from a Member
"Words cannot express the many wonders at Shelburne Farms.
We've been coming here for more than 10 years -- celebrating or just experiencing the beauty of the majestic landscape. A perfect day includes taking a hayride, seeing how Shelburne's fabulous cheddar cheese is made, and ending with teatime at the Inn.
Staying at the Inn is a special treat. The rooms bring you back in time and the staff is welcoming and knowledgeable, which makes our stay even more enjoyable."
