What we're reading

Are you getting lots of "Out of Office" emails these days? We are, too. So in the spirit of August vacations, we'll keep the news short, so you can get back to enjoying your summer. It's been a great one at the Farm, full of fun, learning, friendship, and discovery. We hope yours has been the same.

Best,

Holly Brough

Director of Communications

Cookbook on Capitol Hill

VT Senator Patrick Leahy shared our VT FEED cookbook, New School Cuisine, at a July U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee hearing on child nutrition and served up pumpkin squares made from the book! A copy was hand-delivered to Sam Kass, too, White House Senior Policy Advisor for Nutrition. And when Farm Board member Julia Alvarez received a National Medal of Arts in early August, she delivered a cookbook to Michelle Obama!

Inspiring teachers

Teachers Monette DeSimone and Donna Hynes-Farris from St. Louis, Missouri attended our Education for Sustainability Institute in 2013, returned for our Project Seasons Workshop this year, and then helped teach a week of Adventures camp! What a testament to their dedication and our valuable work with educators.

Let them play!

Read our educator Linda Wellings guest blog for Let's Grow Kids on why kids need play. "Watching young children gain curiosity and self-confidence, develop social skills, and test boundaries by experimenting brings joy and wonder to all involved."

American Cheese Society ribbon
Our 6-month cheddar earned 3rd place for young cheddar at the ACS judging in late July. Vermont cheesemakers brought home 34 ribbons in total! We're honored to be among them. See all the winners
