New Demonstration Project Provides Up to 5 Years of Support for Youth Aging Out of Foster Care

Youth outside in park Public housing and child welfare agencies have an exciting new opportunity to come together and offer housing and services to youth for up to three and a half years longer than traditional programming.

Long-Term Housing Gives Young Person "Room to Breathe" 
 
At the age of 18, many youth "age out" of the foster care system without the supports to help guide them into adulthood.

Cortney Jones, a foster care alum, shares the critical role that the five-year Family Self-Sufficiency Program played in her success, and the reasons why some foster care youth need long-term housing and services to successfully transition to independence.
