Kindergarten Jitters? Join Us for Storytime!
Back-to-school time can be exciting for some kids, but nerve-wracking for others--especially those heading into kindergarten. You can help ease your child into this new experience by taking time to walk by his or her school in the weeks before school starts and by introducing your child to teachers and staff before that first day arrives. You can also take part in fun storytimes that are specifically created to help your child get ready for kindergarten. "Our storytime is all about presenting kindergarten in a positive way," says DPL Librarian and Youth Services Manager Heather McNeil. "We read stories that cause laughter, we sing songs that invite participation, and the children do crafts that get them excited about that first day of school. The kids often arrive somewhat reserved and cautious, but by the time they leave they're relaxed and excited about kindergarten."
