Heroes, Heroes Everywhere
This summer at your library it's all about heroes of every shape, size and species! Families and people of all ages are invited to meet a police dog and search & rescue K9s, shake hands with a U.S. Olympic gymnast, and see why a slithering snake is the unsung hero of the high desert. Kids 6-11 can explore the world of heroes (and villains) of mythology, create their own Super Animal-themed comic book, and even sleep over at our heroic headquarters--the library. And everyone can play the summer reading game! Win prizes just for reading 24/7 (24 minutes a day, 7 days a week). Stop by your library or check our Events guide for details.
From Klondike Kate to Comrade Johns
This summer adults are invited to Escape the Ordinary as part of the library's summer reading program. Join us as we look at the lives of two Central Oregonians who definitely escaped the ordinary in their day! Explore the life of Comrade Johns, the Oregon socialist and candidate for president in the 1920s, as well as the many lives of Klondike Kate, Bend's own dancer and vaudeville star.

On July 12 we welcome award-winning poet Carl Adamshick for Second Sunday, our monthly celebration of the written word. His debut poetry collection received the Walt Whitman Award and his latest collection, Saint Friend, was recently published to wide acclaim by McSweeney's.
Maker Monday: Digital Multimeter Magic
Learn to see things that you can't see with your own eyes using the Digital Multimeter (DMM), the most basic of the electronic instruments used by electronic technicians. Most frequently used to test batteries to determine if they hold a charge or are worn out, the DMM measures voltage, current and resistance. This Maker Monday will give a basic explanation of these three parameters and cover the relationship between them, known as OHM's Law. Free, but space is limited and registration is required. Every participant receives a DMM to take home.
