Coalition to Testify on Elder Justice Initiative Before House Subcommittee
|
On March 25th, Bob Blancato, National Coordinator of the bi-partisan Elder Justice Coalition, will be testifying before the House Appropriations Labor-HHS-Education Subcommittee in support of funding for elder justice and specifically the President's FY 2015 budget, which called for a total of $25 million dollars for an Elder Justice Initiative. The Initiative would provide $5 million for states to interface with the Adult Protective Services National Data System, $11.2 million to advance a coordinated Federal research strategy on elder abuse, including researching characteristics of abusers and victims, and the balance to enhancing data collection at the national level. The Elder Justice Initiative is based on recommendations from the Elder Justice Coordinating Council as well as a 2013 GAO report.
The hearing will take place on Tuesday, March 25th at 10 am. For those who would like to attend in person, it will be held in Rayburn House Office Building 2358-C, Washington, DC. It will also be available on the web and a link will be sent out shortly. For more information, contact Meredith Ponder at meredith@elderjusticecoalition.com.
