Teacher of the Week |
Jennifer Hobbs
Middle School Teacher
English
This is Mrs. Hobbs first year at Northwoods. She moved here from Atlanta with her husband and two daughters (both here at NCS). We are thrilled to have her on staff and she feels the same way: "Teaching at NCS, allows me to use resources and have meaningful discussions dealing with topics students really need in their lives but could never get in the public school system. Because of this, I can create stronger relationships and have more of an impact on my students."

Volunteer of the Month |
one of Northwoods amazing volunteers! Martha is the proud mother of 8 children. Their family has been at NCS for 14 years. Martha is the President of the NCS Booster Club and oversees our decorations for events throughout the year including the NCS Annual Gala! She recently did some much needed "Spring Cleaing" in the upstairs storage!!! Thank you so much Martha for your time and dedication to Northwoods! |

From the President Dear Friends and Families of Northwoods,
Everyone has a story, history and loves. Recently I randomly asked people at Northwoods why they love their school. The answers are totally spontaneous, which is very telling...Please enjoy! | I love Northwoods |
We have been praying for our brothers and sisters in the Midwest and the Philippines. Such tragedy is truly heart wrenching. We have been close to our sister school in Manila and thanks be to God, all is fine with them. Nevertheless, much is needed for the people. If you are interested in supporting relief efforts there by sending a support donation, Read more HERE |
God Bless,

 A Letter from the Principal
Dear Friends and Families of Northwoods,
Thanksgiving is just a little over one week away, and we are working on all of our fun, fall events to add to the celebration of thanks! Our Book Fair is in full swing, as those of you who were able to attend last Friday's opening event were able to see first-hand. Teachers and students will have the opportunity to choose books this week, and we will close the fair with visits from grandparents on Grandparent's Day. Each teacher has filled a box with "book wishes" for his/her classroom. Make sure to look through their selections and choose something to help grow the classroom library. As always, thank you!

!!YEARBOOK!!
I am excited to let you know that we now have a sponsor for the 2013-2014 school year! Robin Deady, who you know from the front desk, has a daughter who has offered to take on the project. Anne Deady was in charge of the yearbook at her high school and we know she will do a beautiful job! She is in need of any photos you have taken of events at the school - feast days, field trips, class events, sporting events, pep rallies, etc... Please send all photos to Anne at ncsyrbk@gmail.com
Thank you for your help and support! |
Yours in Christ,

Thy Kingdom Come!
Dear NCS Families,
Last Friday, I used a story in my homily at Mass to illustrate how when we give ourselves to others, we receive many more blessings back. Below, you will find the link to the video illustrating the story of a middle school football team in Olivet, Michigan that worked together to bring happiness to one of their fellow teammates. Please watch it with your children and discuss!

An Important Decision
Our eighth grade students, along with their families, are in the midst of making important decisions regarding appropriate choice of high schools. Most NCS graduates attend one of the following schools: Incarnate Word Academy, St. Thomas, St. Agnes, Strake Jesuit, Frassati, Klein Oak (IB Program), St. Pius, or Concordia Lutheran.
The students have an opportunity to visit the above-named Catholic schools as a group early in the fall. During these visits, NCS students meet current high school students, tour the campus, learn about the longstanding history and tradition of each school, and eat lunch on campus with student representatives. Next, NCS students submit applications to their chosen high schools by the middle of January. Finally, after a thorough standardized test review at NCS, they take the High School Placement Test at the end of January (for Catholic high schools). Please keep our eighth grade students in your prayers as this is often a difficult decision.

Northwoods Families,
Everest Academy in Manila is organizing a relief operation to the most affected islands hit by the typhoon. As you know, over 10,000 people are feared dead. Everest Academy is Legionary school, just like Northwoods. They are bringing supplies by plane beginning next week. One way of giving supplies directly to those in need is to transfer your monetary donation directly to Everest Academy. Everest's parent association will buy relief goods at discounted prices this week. If you request it they can send you receipts and pictures of the items they purchased. If you would like to find other trusted agencies to donate to I have provided numerous options for you to do so in the attachment. I encourage you to watch this video to hear from the students themselves about the needs in Manila. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32IlnRq6ddc Read More HERE
THIS WEEK
PK had their mission day Friday the 15th. Both PK 3 and PK 4 began the day learning how to love Christ by prayer and service. We encouraged the students, teachers and parents to continue living out their missionary day at the zoo. We encouraged the students to do so by obeying their parents and letting others go before them.
