Seniors' Health Centre celebrates 30 years of caring
North York General Hospital's Seniors' Health Centre (SHC) recently celebrated 30 years of serving our community. SHC has evolved from being more like a seniors' residence to a 192-bed long-term care home with a focus on specialized geriatric services.
Activationist Gloria Dodd and Registered Practical Nurse Jennifer Stalker have been passionate about the work they do since they first began working at the SHC in 1985.

Dr. Jeremy Theal wins Minister's Medal
Dr. Jeremy Theal has been recognized by the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, the Hon. Dr. Eric Hoskins, for improving patient care at North York General Hospital and improving the quality and safety of patient care across the province and the country.
Dr. Theal, Chief Medical Information Officer and a Gastroenterologist, was awarded the 2015 Minister's Medal Honouring Excellence in Health Quality and Safety (individual) for conceiving and leading the development of the Canadian CPOE Toolkit.

Spray it, don't spread it
Each fall season, parents across the country battle with their young children to sit still while they get the flu shot. This year, Ontario is offering children and teens between the ages of two and 17 a pain-free nasal spray flu vaccine option, at no cost, so your family can stay protected during flu season without the fight. For those who don't mind the stick, flu shots are still available for children.

From heartbreak to healing and helping
Since she first moved to our community from Greece in 1968, North York General Hospital has been an important part of Alexandra Boutros's life, seeing her through her happiest and darkest times.
Her experience here sparked a genuine admiration for the work done at the hospital and a desire to help where she could. Alexandra is proud to be a North York General Volunteer and to be supporting the new Ambassador Leadership Program.

NYGH helps global effort in Huntington disease
North York General Hospital is part of Enroll-HD, a worldwide observational study for Huntington disease (HD) families that monitors how HD appears and changes over time.
One of the leading authorities on HD in Canada, North York General's Genetics Department is one of the top worldwide enrollers for Enroll-HD in 2015. "While it involves time and effort, it's extremely rewarding to be part of this global initiative," says Clare Gibbons, Genetics Counsellor. "What we all hope for is a cure for Huntington disease. Until then, we will do everything we can to help us get there."
