Healthy Jam Jar Salads
Healthy Jam Jar Salads
It's not too late to register for summer camps at Red Deer College!

This summer, we're all about experimenting with cooking. We're offering new cooking camps for kids aged 9-12 years and for adults as part of Series Summer Arts School. Visit rdc.ab.ca/summercamps to learn more.

You can find all types of healthy, fresh ingredients at your local farmer's market or even grow your own fruits, veggies and herbs. Check out this short video for an easy summer salad idea, courtesy of Jamie Oliver!

Fitness Tips
When it comes to taste and nutrition, nothing beats the real thing!

5 Tips for Using Fresh Ingredients

1. Prepare jar salads ahead of time for lunch at work/school
(watch this video).

2. Bought too many fresh peaches or strawberries? Chop and freeze for tasty smoothies all year.

3. Keep asparagus fresh longer by placing the cut stems in cold water in the fridge. Change the water every 3 days.

4. When choosing rhubarb, look for stalks that are crisp and brightly colored. Tightly store in a resealable bag in the fridge up to 3 days.

5. Fresh herbs inject instant flavor into your food. Store fresh basil in a jar or vase with water at room temperature.
