Important Information:
Electronics Policy
Today all students had a refresher on our Electronics Policy. During 2nd period students watched a video from the directors, and read and discussed an article by Katrina Schwartz, Age of Distraction: Why It's Crucial for Students to Learn to Focus. We have outlined the policy below as well as some frequently asked questions.

Electronic Devices Policy
  • Students are prohibited from using their cell phones ( and other electronic devices) anytime during the school day unless directed by a teacher
  • Electronic devices cannot be charged in the building at any point during the school day including lunches and off periods.
  • At the start of every period cell phones and other electronic devices must be put away. (Not having pockets is not an excuse. Same goes for large headphones. Leave electronics in your locker.)
  • Teachers will have a visual sign to alert students when electronic devices are allowed for educational purposes.

Consequences for violating the VP electronic devices policy:

First Infraction
  • A verbal or non-verbal reminder/redirect from the teacher

Second Infraction

  • Student gives the cell phone/electronic device to the instructor for the remainder of the period. If the student refuses to give up his/her cell phone/electronic device the student will be referred to the Dean. The Dean will hold the cell phone/electronic device for the remainder of the day.

Multiple Infractions

  • Any student that has their electronic device taken by any instructor on more than two occasions will be referred to the Dean for further disciplinary action.
FAQ's
What if I need to get in touch with my student during the day?
We ask that you call the main office, 303-340-0121, and they can connect you to your student just as fast without breaking the policy.

Can my student use their phone before school, during lunch and after school?
Yes this is their time and they are mature enough to use it during these times.

Why can't my student charge their device at school?
Devices have been left charging somewhere and then have gone missing. Charging of multiple devices in the school is also driving up our energy consumption in the school.

What will the teacher do if a phone/device is taken?
The teacher will lock it up then talk with the student after class and return it.

Does this mean we are no longer a 21st Century school?
No. We want students  to have access to education without distractions and prepare them to meet their goals. 21st Century workplaces have a strong focus on the goals of the company and not the latest Vine or Twitter post.
