CU Mini-Med School

The following students attended the 8 week CU Mini-Med School held here at Hinkley. Kudos to all of these students getting their first "med school" certificate!!! Please congratulate them if you have them in your class, even if they did not receive a certificate. They were dedicated to attending and learning great stuff from the CU Med School faculty!

Veteran's Day
We we honored to have few service men and women join us for lunch on Veteran's day. Thank you to Capt. Gary Sampson, TSgt Richard Grybos, SA Sarena Paulson, and A1C Christopher Orwin for spending your afternoon with us. We also have about a 1000 thank you cards on their way to Afghanistan!

Aurora Public Schools Community Meetings
Aurora Public Schools continues to experience enrollment growth, especially at our elementary and P-8 schools. Based on projected enrollment growth over the next four years, APS is anticipating facility challenges due to overcrowded schools. As a result, the district has considered several options to address enrollment growth, with a focus on schools near the E-470 corridor.
Join us for a community meeting to learn about the school capacity proposal we are recommending to address enrollment growth challenges. You may attend either of the community meetings listed below.

Cap & Gown Information
Seniors met with a Herff Jones representative on November 5th and received information and order forms for caps and gowns, announcements and class rings. Herff Jones will be back on November 19th from 8:00 am -3:00 pm to collect orders and payments. If your student missed the meeting extra packets can be picked up from Ms. Weiland in the main office. If you have any questions about ordering you can call Herff Jones at 970-663-2668. You can also place your orders online. The graduation gowns are being custom made for Vista PEAK Preparatory. Our class of 2014 will be the very first ones to ever wear these gowns. All gowns will be rented from Herff Jones. Cap and gown rentals are $40 and the students will keep the caps and tassels.

Parent Teacher Conferences
Conferences will be held on November 20 & 21 from 4:00 PM - 7:30 PM. Conferences are a open house style format so parents may come anytime during the window and meet with the teachers they need to. Parents please please bring your students with you to conferences.

All picture and quote submissions should be sent to vistapeakyearbook@gmail.com with your seniors last name and first name in the subject line (Last name_First name). Custom space can be purchased in the following sizes: Whole page ($140.00) ½ page ($100.00) or ¼ page ($50.00). Payment must be made to the bookkeeper Mrs. McLellan NO LATER THAN DECEMBER 15. Pictures and text can be emailed to vistapeakyearbook@gmail.com, or you can drop a hard copy off at the school. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mr. Bakersky.

Black Student Alliance
The Black Student Alliance met this week. We had a great turnout and are looking forward to the next meeting will be held on Tuesday Dec. 3rd with the Latino Student Alliance.

Winter Athletics
Wrestling
Wrestling Season is in full swing and we are looking forward to a successful season. We are pleased to be hosting the first matches of the season at Vista PEAK on Thursday December 5. We welcome Byers and Strasberg high schools to compete in a Tri starting at 5pm. We would love the support of staff, parents and faculty at this event for the young men that are in enduring on a challenging season of perseverance, sacrifice, hard work and discipline.
Students, if you have any interest being involved in one of the oldest and toughest sports around, meet in the wrestling room at 3:30 and check it out, we would love to have you be apart of the team!

Donations Needed
The PBiS team is looking for donations for a holiday store. New and gently used items that can be sold or traded for Bison Tokens can be dropped off with Andrea Burrell, Matt Brodie, Zaida Kingery, Colleen Dobson or Lisa Skoglund. Please consider donating items that students can give as gifts to siblings, friends and parents; items can include small toys, inexpensive jewelry, (unopened) bath and body products, appropriate DVDs, unredeemed gift cards, etc. We plan to open the store NEXT Wednesday (Wednesday, November 20), so bring your donations in ASAP.

Jazz Band Performance
The VP jazz band has been invited to perform at the esteemed Dazzle Restaurant & Lounge. We would love to have families join them for this unique opportunity. The group was invited by a VP parent who attended the last concert and was blown away by our kids and their abilities. Please join us!

Parents Holiday Shopping Day
Saturday, December 14th 1-4pm, the Poms team will be providing babysitting so that you can get out and do some holiday shopping! You can pick up flyers in the main office. The cost is $15 for one child and $10 for any additional children. Light snacks will be provided
